Issues with SDR/HDR
So I'm having issues with the HDR in this game. I have an HDR monitor and can play with it no issues with games like Elden ring, but for some reason turning HDR on in this game makes things very dark.

I'm not using the DX11 fix, or any other fixes or mods.

Has anyone else had this issue?

It seems to darken it for everything, not only the game. While the game is running if I hit the windows key to bring up the start menu, that looks darkened as well.

My experience is this:

"HDR on PC is a funny subject really..."

Vizio TV's as example:

V-Series 4K - Lowest End
("Has HDR, But No HDR On PC")

M-Series 4K - Low End
("Has HDR, But Causes Color-loss Enabled")

P-Series 4K - Mid End
("Has HDR, But Causes Dark Picture? Enabled")
I'm guessing about this one...

OLED-Series 4K - Highest End
("Has HDR, Said To Have The Best HDR Enabled")

See what I mean by it's a funny Subject?

HDR seems to function differently based on how many Backlight Dimming Zones, & the overall Color Bits being used in the HDR... The Computer for some reason requires a better Quality HDR then your TV Couch Setup does...

-------------------------

What I did for the M-Series to fix my HDR
on the Computer was...

I readjusted my Color Settings, Contrast, & such, after my HDR was already Enabled... I also, disabled like 3 Settings in my AMD Software Program, too...

Now, HDR is Enabled, & the
picture looks good, too

Since 8K HDR AI Auto adjusts HDR for you,
I don't know how you would solve that problem if it happened on an 8K Computer Setup... If you got one to try it out on...

----------------------

If Games got washed out Colors
in HDR after Enabling in Game?

1.) Your Computer might not be powerful enough to handle the HDR Colors & might be an indication of it prob dying soon

2.) Might be a Game issue, & the Dev needs to fix that overall on their End

3.) It may just be due to Setting Adjustments in your GPU Software Control Program...

I read some Settings on AMD need to be
turned off when using HDR to ensure it works as intended, & not washed out in Games... I believe it was 3 Settings? But that was back in 2017-2019, & I dunno what's been done about this ever since...

SE won't fix anything for a long while cause they don't exactly care.

It took them years to fix anything on FF XIV cause they focus more on getting more attention and more customers they know they make mistakes but put as little effort as possible to take care of them.

Give them another two three years maybe they'll take care of these issues until then they'll be more than happy to take the money and continue on the assumption they are the best gaming company out there and then waste the money on useless projects

Otherwise, turn on HDR in Windows. You probably didn't do that if everything is washed out.

I appreciate your insight, I'll check out the luminance of my monitor.

I did turn HDR on in windows, however. And the game isn't appearing washed out to me. Just quite dark.

Edit: I ended up refunding the game. Not (just) for the HDR issue, but I do appreciate everyone's help.

It seems that a number of users, perhaps even connecting their PC to a television monitor (are unaware) that you NEED to enable HDR in windows in :HDR settings. Some games have a built in feature that auto switches w/in windows, but generally, even if you can enable HDR in the game menu, it must have already been enabled in windows. My monitor supports it, but at 300 nits, it's not so great. Depends on the game. I'm using it in this one.
