A lot of the people criticising certain developers and writers often seem to forget the very salient point:
There were 2 significant challenges that had to be handled.
1) Initial production budgets and property licenses were not guaranteed nor necessarily expected to support anything more than a single release. Even when Rebirth was well underway it was still not guaranteed until later in 2022 that there might be authorisation and funding for 3 parts.
2) No creative professional can ever be satisfied with creating the exact same work 20 years later. There will always be improvements and enhancements, new techniques and corrections.
Now I am one of those who really did not like the "Whispers". I did not like that the Shinra HQ section where you are imprisoned and wake up to find the trail of blood did not occur as in the original. I did not like that Biggs survived. I did not like Roche. I did not like that idiot Corneo gatekeeper guy or his U-Turn rubbish.
I did not like the padding that was shoehorned into this unnecessarily.
But
I can respect the fact that under the motivation that this could be the complete and only "FFVII Remake" product, why it was needed to include Sephiroth as the iconic villain, and therefore, also a fight with some form of Jenova. I can understand why they wanted to allude to Aerith's mysticism. I can understand why Barrett exposed the Materia is Mako is the Lifestream early. I can understand why the Cetra revelations are played within MIdgar and I can understand why the whispers and all that nonsense post motorball are included as a jsutificaiton for the changes that had to be made to satisfy the beats that were needed if this was a one-off flop to serve as nostalgia sauce.
I do not like it so much, but I understand.
There is no easy solution and I would task anyone to put forward their own alternative under the stringent requirements.

I will very likely buy Rebirth and Requiem or whatever it will be called. Even if I am disappointed with story changes and the dull padding I think it can still be an overall positive experience to play and a means to satisfy the immersion of remaining with beloved characters in an intriguing world.
I think the only thing that would really prevent my purchase would be when SE implement NFT/Microstransaction into the game. So long as there's no extra costs post-unit license purchase, then I'm good.
No matter what they've done to the storyline, I am still very relived it is not so catastrophic as whatever the stillbirth was FFXV
Its cool to see more depth in characters, but the opening mission was way less memorable than the original.
Im not going to lie though, i was super pissed when i saw those stupid ghosts flying around. That was so stupid.
I feel like they basically just didn't want to end the game with the party sleeping in an inn at Kalm.
The BIG things I was surprised they introduced in Part 1, though, is Cloud having never been in SOLDIER.
As for the Whispers, I don't mind them. In a game where the planet produces giant robots of revenge, the whispers aren't that much of a far cry from the original setting. the sound of the lifestream even gets referred to as thousands of wailing souls. For me, it's just going to depend on what happens from here now that "destiny is defeated"
This. Nomura even stated they wanted to implement the Whispers in the original but couldn't due to restraints.
Arte you sure about that? I am not suggesting you lie, but I have not heard of this (from any official source) and I tend to keep my ear to the ground with the FFVII "news". I have seens some fan speculation on this, but not from any interview or direct quote from Nomura... Please can you provide the source for this
