Is this entire game played out in a city?
Just curious, all the screenshots and video I've seen from this game seem to happen in a city. The original was amazing for the scope of the things you could in the open world. This doesn't appear to be like that. If it has open world (as in, non-urban) content then I'm in, if its just a pretty dungeon slog then probably not

It is the first game in a trilogy of games, like mas effect was a full game and part of a story, and it is a full game in it's own right.

It focuses on the adventures that take place in the city of midgar from the original.
Greatly expanding on the first area of the original game with voice acting, more indepth exploration of characters, etc.

This first game wraps up as the party leaves the city, and presumably the next game will have whatever they design for travel across the world.

Plays completely on rails like an action adventure rather than an RPG. Similar to like Uncharted or Tomb Raider with set piece action scenes and stuff but even less exploration than those games.

Not a very good comparison, Mass Effect had multiple planets to go to, not just the citadel. FF7R is more like Dragon Age 2 but even that had places just outside the city you could go to.

Aim that statement at yourself fool, the first game had an overworld with multiple towns, ports, etc. FF7R takes place entirely within Midgar. Also adding more than three dots at the end of your statement confirms that you are an imbecile.

I was not conparing in content...

Only that it was a full game, and part of an overarching story.

Your ignorance when they literally stated years ago the 1st of the Episodic will be entirely at Midgard just like the very first Disc of the original FF7. The overworld is right after that.
You so called "Fans" are so demanding on this game just because it's a Remade and not a 1:1 following the Original game story and script. They never did state it's going to be the same.

The first disc of OG FF7 had a lot more than just Midgar. Midgar only lasted for 3-5 hours.

The first disc has the overworld you idiot, who hasn't played OG 7 again? The first disc has Midgar, Chocobo farm, the big snake fight, Kalm, Mythril Mine, Junon, the cargo ship, Costa Del Sol, Corel Prison, etc, etc, etc. Disc 1 ends at the forgotten capital.

Remake takes the "city of Midgar" section from the original game and expands that from some 5h of playtime into some 35-40h of playtime through additional content. The game ends at the point in the timeline where the party leaves the city, so no, Remake does not have a completely free overworld map. That will happen in the next game, most likely.

I really wouldn't count on that if I were you.
If anything, there will be fast travel option, like FFX.

I don't think they will radically change level design just for part 2.
Rhapsody Jul 2, 2022 @ 7:08am
Midgar always deserved a game of its own.

As a larger more open place to explore with new areas sure. What Remake does is make it longer to get from place to place and pad the game with mmo tier quests.

Considering that the majority of the open world map in the original game was irrelevant beyond getting from one set location to another and fighting random monster battles, the loss caused by an "open world" based on set location and quick travel options would probably be negligible.
But we'll have to wait and see what the devs are going to do, first.
