I personally prefer FF7R, because of the music, characters, story, setting, combat and materia system.
The open world of FFXV is really cool, and I do like the immersive side activities and cruising around in the car, but I can't stand almost everything else about the game, including the combat.
They're both worth playing, and they're both good for different reasons. Which one is better completely depends on the type of player and what they are looking to get out of the game.
They are two completely different games with two completely different stories and settings along with two completely different combat mechanics.
FFXV is way too short though. Probably the shortest story out of all the FF games in the franchise.
Final Fantasy VII Remake is as the title suggest, a remake of the 1997 Final Fantasy VII game and it is pretty amazing, except from the fact that it is heavily overpriced and partitioned into different parts or 'episodes', which i honestly don't like. It's a bit scummy, but the story and game so far is pretty amazing, as i said.
For me personally, any game with long, deep and engaging stories is worth it for me, and knowing the story from the original FF VII, the remake is definitely the better option.
Edit: Just listened to the battle theme. It has this part in it that kind of reminds me of the James Bond theme, which I think is what I was thinking of. FFXIII's battle theme is the one that reminded me of CT.
I think I do need to give it another try, because it does genuinely seem like SE tried to make a great game there, but I am just not in a rush to go back to it anytime soon because it's not really what I look for in an FF game.
Alot of players say the ending isnt that great to? Maybe add multiple endings?
Also i think some say the last part of the game is really corridor and ruins the open world, maybe add some off ramps to go exploring again?
XV if you like action combat and missed the overworld from older FF titles as it has an open world to explore with giant beasts to kill and side activities like fishing, chocobos, etc.
7R if you have nostalgia for the setting and characters of FF7 but also like action combat. My issue with the Remake Trilogy and now FF16 is that they won't go back to the overworld or instead go open world with them, the remake trilogy in terms of world is designed like X and XIII, and from what i read 16's "world" is going to be the same as in SoP, just s stage select screen.
XV had a peculiar perk of having multiplayer mode, but while combat system was a spectacle, it wasn't really all that good, plus all the cut content that was removed permanently or put back later as episodes is very eh thing to do.
I had fun playing XV, but I have a blast playing VIIr.
Also, different themes.
7 is about fighting against fate, 15 is about being forced to follow it, no deviation allowed, only acceptance, going for both, protagonist and antagonist, both tried to fight against predestined fate, both failed.
You can compare everything, but it is like comparing apples and pears.
FF7R is still sopmewhat teh story of FF7, which is one of the strongest stories in FF whith 5, so it is already far suiperior. Characters are also way more endeeringh in this vs FF15.
XV world feels empty and isn't even that big to begin with when it comes to where we can actually go, so for an open world game isn't that great.
What happens with FF VII Remake part 2 is very interesting as well.
