Bait post is obvious but imma respond to it seriously because I'm bored.

It's a memento of Zach. It's Cloud's way of taking up the torch and keeping Zach with him. It also helps him stay grounded in his delusion that he was a 1st class SOLDIER operative, as all SOLDIER members wield big swords. Since he doesn't come to grips until later with the fact that the combination of Mako poisoning, grief/trauma over Zach's death, as well as his embarrassment over having ended up being nothing but a common grunt in the Shinra Army (which he didn't want to face the residents of his hometown after having talked a big game) caused him to basically fill in the gaps in his memory with Zach's experiences with himself placed in Zach's shoes...he basically needs that sword in order to convince not just those around him, but himself as well that he had In fact been a SOLDIER, less he have a complete meltdown from facing the fallacy of his memories before he was truly ready to do so.

Then by the time he did face that fact, I would imagine between having sworn to live on Zach's behalf, as well as he fact that he was already extremely accustomed to used a huge sword, he just kept going with it.

Obviously the real answer is the people that designed the characters just thought it would look cool (and possibly drew inspiration from Guts, the main Character of the manga Berserk)...but eh, that's my take on the in lore implications behind it.
