Remake, reboot or sequel?
It has remake in the title, but it seems mire like a parallel universe. I call it a sequel, it's about as much a remake of itself as the force awakens is of star wars.

A sequel would imply it comes after something else, which it does not. It is closest to a reboot because it changes several things, a remake would be the same game...remade.

kinda agree with Sick Duck. the game heavily implies Sephiroth knows whats going on and purposely changing events by fighting with fate and destiny. like this Sephiroth is from the future (post advent Children movie) trying to alter the past. so to me, its a Sephiroth Sequel lol.

Yeah, to be able to appreciate fully what's going on in the story,
the game expects you to already have at least working knowledge of how the major events of the original game went down.

This is some kind of alternate timeline.
So while it's not a sequel, in that it doesn't continue the story, it does build off it.

I consider it a "Side Story", as its not exactly a sequel as its not the same story of FF7 continuing after the North Crater battles, nor it continues the story of FF7AC/C.

Its not a reboot as there are clear links to the previous entries. I'm not a comic book fan so I do not consider parallel universe style story to be a reboot.

Remake would imply that the game is same story overall as original, with different story bits added/subtracted and possibly different gameplay experience. We got extra bits of story and very different gameplay experience, but the overall story is becoming different especially by the time ending comes (it starts as early as Aerith encounter in chapter 2).

If we take the word Remake as in the story is being "re-made" or the characters (its mostly Aerith and Sephiroth) "re-trying" the same event for different outcome, then I suppose it sort of can be considered Remake, but its still a little far fetch for me.

Anyway, I would TLDR I consider it a "Side Story".

It's all of the above. It's a Remake because it Redoes the timeline. It's a Reboot because it Restarts over but with changes. It's a Sequel because it happens after the original compilation. Sephiroth went back in time and Reset everything, so it's also a Retcon.

It's a remake. Don't be ridiculous. Remake implies things can change.

lol what? No.
Sorry but your personal opinion is not fact.
A remake just means the game was re made from the ground up. Which means graphics, genre, style, art, combat system, Story can all be changed. It's a ReMAKE.
It takes the place of the original in its own universe.
It's not a ""side story"" it's just a retelling of the original story and changing things.

Both

I think it's a ReMake
& a Reboot at the same time...

But I am curious if Part 1 will be most of the Game that we are gonna get, or not, or what?

Sequel probably.
Orochi Jun 22, 2022 @ 7:25pm
Remake is the title of the game, not a description. It's a sequel like the later Evangelion movies.

There isn't a debate here, this has been known for years now.

I mean, it's your opinion :D. Others will feel differently of course.

I wouldn't call it a remake. A remake is a full game remade, this is only a small portion of the game. And they're planning on more parts.

I disagree, I absolutely think that this game takes place after the original, and I think the next game in the series will confirm that the events of the original game are canon have already happened.
