Eng VAs or Japanese VAs

Which does the community prefer? Personally, I've tried both languages and always find myself going back to English. I feel much more of a connection to the English cast. I believe the English VAs do a good job and bring a lot of charm to the game.

100% not. FF7R was produced pre covid and released before the first vaccine even got an emergency use authorization in the US. It was announced in 2019 that Burton won't be on FF7R and he wasn't the only one. Almost the entire cast changed.

They were allegedly fired because they were not new, young and popular enough.

That doesn't make sense because they kept the same Japanese voices they have used since 2002, the first voice credit for the Japanese voice of Cloud is in 1996 so he has been working since the 90s. . . not young or new.

That doesn't make sense cause they used the same American voice actors from 2002 all the way until 2018/19 and the voice acting union strikes started in 2016. Also I checked every single American voice cast member from Advent Children's Wikipedia page and not one of them mentions them being involved with any unions (admittedly not the best place to get that particular information) and most of them have roles in the 2020s in video games or TV. The voice of Sephiroth is voicing Superman in the upcoming MultiVersus for example. The voice of Cid did Cid for Kingdom Hearts III Re Mind in 2020 even which is the farthest I have found any of the main cast working for Square Enix. Also if they are just gonna get a new job for lower pay somewhere else you think they would accept their old pay rate to stay an iconic character that has brought them lots of fame and fans. . . The voice of Barret can't be getting paid more to be 3 random characters in Fallout 76.

I prefer english because the side npcs dont have any subs. Japanese is fine too, i like how barret sounds but english is also pretty good. I played japanese 1st play and 2nd english.

the side NPCs have subs it's just a separate option in the settings called "Chat Log"

That would have been so nice to know. I was able to understand them about half the time since they used simple phrases, but there were so many that left me wondering.

I noticed that before I even started playing because the bottom of the screen has a description for what each setting does and "Chat Log" didn't make sense to me.

It doesn't matter if it makes sense or not because Steve Burton said that "they got rid of all the original cast for a new and younger case". SE said that they fired them because they wanted to work with a younger cast that would be suitable for expressing younger versions of the characters.

Takahiro Sakurai is still very popular in Japan. Then it comes to popularity Cody Christian plays in a different league compared to Steve Burton.

I'm more puzzled by some localizations than acting. For example, Jenova Dreamweaver is Jenova Beat (or BEAT if you prefer) in the original. Purple Plain is Grand Glove, and Pride and Joy is still the same old Proud Clad. And I prefer "Independent" over "Complete" materia, but I don't know if that was changed in localization or original. There's probably more examples, but those are the ones I've run to, and only because of looking things up. It's not an issue or anything, but I think the original terms and names tend to be better. Exceptions exist too: EKG Cannon is better than "Heartbeat". lol

Started playing with English VA fully expecting to get annoyed along the way and swap to JP. But it didn't happen, the localization team did great job. So it is a manner of preference, no reason to force yourself into reading subtitles by setting to language you don't speak.

I made it maybe 15 minutes before I had to change. Barrett killed me, and Jessie wasn't too great either.

Seriously? You are taking the word of the guy who tried to get a religious and medical exemption for a Covid vaccine when he is the only guy saying it? Obviously he wouldn't wanna admit that he screwed it up all by himself.
