Inventory management is a bit clunky, or is it just me?
First off, this game is A+. I’m loving almost every minute of it (flipping my car right outside a gate is not fun, but it’s part of it, right?), and I’ve forgotten the feeling of sunshine since I’ve started playing.

I am a bit annoyed at the inventory settings though. I upgraded to the pneumatic storage, which I still haven’t managed to fill up all the way if it’s even possible. The problem I have with it is that I can’t sort my materials in any practical way. In order to alphabetically arrange my items, I have to pull every single item out completely, then put them in one stack at a time from a-z(input 9volts first).

If I miss an item or click the wrong item, then I have to basically start over. It would be nice if there was a click and drag option in the inventory, where I can swap/insert stacks of items where I want them between runs. It’s not game breaking, I’ve just given up on organizing my items because it’s so overly tedious.

Does anybody else have this issue? Or found any work arounds?

Thanks!

I think it works fine, but I also don't care if my stash is sorted A-Z. I just dump all crafting materials into the same pneumatic locker and paints/decals in another. Anything tool or item wise I keep in the regular lockers that are easier to keep sorted. If you press Y it'll auto sort your backpack, transfer box and I think normal containers as well, but not the pneumatic lockers. That might make it easier on you, unless you're doing that already.

Truthfully it is a bit.. Micro management... But hey it more or less means that next time you are out you focus on X resource for collection. Like early game its getting all the basics... Then mid is getting all the sap... And not sure about late game yet.

But more or less you need to focus on what you want/need of the resources

I’m playing on pc, what does Y do in your game, I’ll try the same keybind on my side and let you know if it worked.

Oh yeah sorry I meant Y on keyboard not gamepad. It auto sorts materials so they're all lined up next to each other. I haven't paid attention to what order it puts them in though and it doesn't do a very good job sorting your tools lol.

I gave up on keeping things tidy in my resource lockers. What I do appreciate is that when you are crafting items in the garage, you don't have to have it in your backpack, it just grabs the materials from anywhere.

A way to unstack items would be nice though. I do like to bring a few items on runs to craft more gear if needed, but I don't want to bring 20 plastic when I might only need 6 to start and I'll gather more throughout the run.

Playing on steam controller there are key binds to auto sort and grab all of a kind from a container. Basic resources go in the pneumatic container everything else gets a locker. When you craft from the car or the workbench in the garage it draws from all available resources you wouldn't need to worry about getting resources out of the system.

The "Y" key sorts items by mousing over the storage you choose and then hitting the key.

The "T" button will try to take everything from a storage and put it in your inventory, or try to take everything from your inventory and put it into storage depending on what you are moused over.

Holding SHIFT and clicking will quickly transfer the singular item stack you are moused over. No need to drag items around.

Oh, I see what you mean now. Yeah, it’s still kinda hard to tell what exactly I’m working with though. I’m really just being ocd. I gave up on being perfectly organized awhile back. Maybe a patch or a mod will come a long later. No big deal, I’ll probably just go back to color coding.

both the car and garage inventory is linked for crafting, so there's no particular reason to ever "find" a specific type of resource, you just use T and auto move it to/from lockers. (the only time I ever manually move items in in my "tools" locker or if the auto move left a few one-tile gaps in the non-pneumatic storage space and I need to tetris it around a bit)

I like counting things. It’s not a need, just something I enjoy in my games. It also helps me plan my drives.

Is there a problem with me wanting to keep an exact inventory?

to be fair i'm not sure there is a reason to need to manually sort anything... since everything can be used from storage and the crafting table tells you how many you have in storage at any time there is no reason to ever look through your storage outside of paints and decals and parts (but parts are so big sorting isn't needed). I get why people would want to be able to sort it but i'm not sure i've ever actually grabbed anything manually out of my inventory once its thrown in (outside of paints/decals/ full car parts) since the first run.

you don't need to count, you can see the exact number whenever you want.

Show me where it gives me a number for exactly how many of each inventory item I have. A list of every item, with its count, in order.

That's what I'm looking for. If you're just pretending to be clever, please don't waste your time or mine.

You can use the workbench to view your material amounts. It is how I know I have around 3.5K scrap... >.<
