I'll go along with that. For me, the whole thing is too random. Doing the quests at the beginning, later making sure you lay perfect cards - that's what I do. Close forests, etc. Yes, this too.
I think I get it now. A few posts down, someone writes that you shouldn't let the forests/villages etc. grow too big. I.e. close them in time. And that actually works much better. I always let everything become huge, also because of the achievements. But that was too much at once and doesn't work well.

I have now made it to 14360. So almost reached the 15000. I'll look again for the topic where this is written about. Maybe that will help you too.
"Are flag quests counter productive?" - so heißt die Diskussion.

Try the opposite of this. You should ALWAYS be aiming for perfect placement of every single tile you place, even if it means delaying quest completion. A perfect tile gives you 1 tile back, so if every tile you place ends up being perfect you'll (theoretically) never run out of tiles. Quests just help give you a buffer of tiles to get you through until your perfects start paying back out.

Obviously you can't always place perfect, but my general rule of thumb is that I will never place a tile down that isn't perfect unless I'm trying to match on 5 or 6 sides and don't feel like waiting for the perfect tile to show up (if it's a very unusual tile that I'm waiting on for example).

Unfortunately, I don't get very far with this method. Maybe I'm just too stupid. It worked better earlier when I tried it as described above. I still try to lay it perfectly. So to speak, both are running parallel. Completing quests and laying perfect ones. But don't finish the quests too early. I have no idea how to describe it. But I think I'll soon get the hang of it.

There's nothing wrong with finishing your quests early and often, you just don't want to compromise your perfects for it. You can of course sacrifice some perfects if you're running low on tiles and need to finish quests but you're basically hurting your long game for short term gains if you do that so it's only a good idea if you're going to lose unless you do it.
I'll get it right. Somehow. At least I hope so.

Thank you.

So, I made the 15000 and got to a little over 18000. I have also finally managed "the sea of worlds". Now I have to get some sleep...

The problem I keep running into is it keeps on giving me tiles that are basically all fields, and obviously I've got nowhere perfect to put it so I end up putting it at the edge of the already sprawling field, now I've got 3+ field edges that need more fields to close up. Then the game goes, 'Woah you sure love fields, have some more'

Then maybe leave a gap in your fields where such a card fits in. So you don't have to put it on the edge.

@seedye thx for useful tips!
SeedyE, thank you.

This is very helpful and confirms that with the flag quests.

Your screenshot makes me dizzy. Respect.

Thanks

I've scored over 30k only a few times, definitely less than ten. I won't pretend it was all skill, it was insanely lucky (e.g. How many rail-and-river tiles can you spot? I got hardly any)

Still great. To make it there at all. At least once...
(I guess a little luck is always involved. But the rest is then definitely skill.)
