Heavy Weight Rotation
Having a crack at the Heavy weight achievements, all going well until I got to the 150 tile challenge. Coming here to suggest that having rotation and zooming both activated by the scroll wheel is a massive big issue if it resets the counter (which it does!)

I went to zoom in to get a closer look at the piece I was using and it instead rotated as I must have been hovering over the wrong part of the board, my counter reset. I thought perhaps if I rotated it back to its initial orientation it might restore the counter but alas, it did not :(

I will have another go but I'm not looking forward to getting to the 200+ tile mark only to lose the streak through zooming in or out...

I have heard that the 'undo' button works. As it undoes the previous move it should also reset the count to the previous state.

You could do a quick test by placing 2 or 3 tiles then rotating, undo and see if the count reverts to previous state.

But, yeah, it's a pain trying to zoom when going for this achievement.

Thanks for the tip, I'll test it out when I next play!
Assuming you're on WASD, set zoom out/in to Q/E. (Allow me this moment to sneak in ESDF shill.)

EDIT: And pay very close attention to the pin in case you manage to reset it to 2/200... >.>

Hmm, apparently you can disable the scroll wheel itself by editing Windows registry and still keep MMB.

I don't understand how to do this. The tiles automatically rotate and I don't see an option to turn off auto rotate, just an option to slow it down, but even at the lowest setting the tiles still rotate. Can someone explain what I need to do to place tiles without ever rotating them?

The only time they rotate automatically is when the tile has river or rail. That is because the river/rail has to join with another piece of its own type. So it auto rotates to align with an existing edge.

Also be careful when zooming in/out. If you are zooming and it causes the mouse to hover over one of the white hexes then it will cause the tile to rotate. So best to zoom when on big areas of land or open play area to avoid this happening.

Auto rotation does not affect the achievement. In fact, you can get water/rail tiles to rotate the way you want it by rotating them against other edges. You are required to not rotate with keyboard or mouse buttons. Like the other guy said, mouse zooming might accidentally rotate a tile, which is why I recommend using keyboard to zoom (remap to Q/E for ease).

Watch the pinned challenge progress. You can pin a challenge by clicking on it in the rewards screen. In case you were looking at achievements from Steam and don't actually have the challenge unlocked in the rewards screen in-game, you need to unlock it first through a crown quest.

Thanks for the suggestions. I gave it another try but I still can't even get the first part of 25. I can't pin this challenge either, there's only a few that I can pin, the rest are hidden, apparently locked until I reveal hidden tiles on the map by building to them?

Yep, once you build to them they will give you a special quest, and if you complete it you will unlock a new set of achievements :)

Auto-rotation is fine, and pressing undo is fine.

Source: me, I've finished all the achievements :D

Lovely job mate, and thx for the confirmation of abovementioned methods.

I remember the dark times before undo (also reinstated your previous count).

Well done mate, I can't imagine doing this.

Well, now I'm puzzled. Since the autorotating tiles of rivers and trails shouldn't affect the counter. I recently finished a game on classic mode and placed 220 tiles without using the trigger-buttons on the gamepad to rotate. Is there any prerequisition to do the achievements?

Some challenges (and thus, achievements) are locked until you build your landscape out to the hidden tiles on the map :)
