Does everyone need to own the DLC for online play with friends?

I currently own the game and all the DLC. Was planning on having a game night with some friends via the 'Online Play with Friends' mode.

How does this work? Will I have to ask all 3 of my friends to buy the game and DLC to play a game in the Fairytale Kingdom?

Nope! They can play with you without owning the DLC. It just adds cosmetic stuff, which they will see (except the map I think, they'll just see the default map), but they won't have themselves unless they buy the DLC.

But don't the new maps change their layout? Other fields in a different order etc.?

When your friends would play the default map, the layout wouldn't match with your new map.

All the maps have the same layout. They have to be, in order for everyone to play together.

They do this in order to let people still be able to play together if someone has bought the DLC. In some way it's fair, but i understand what you mean lol
