Idle?
I read that if I minimize the game, then the cookies are slower to accrue. Does the same happen if I just have it behind another task, like a browser? If it's just at the farthest back window on my desktop, but not minimized, will it be just as fast as it normally is?

cookies produced is based on the amount of screenspace the application occupies at the time
The only way it changes is if you close the game; minimizing it still has everything running at 100%.

It is pretty irrelevant anyway, 99.99% of cookies are made by combos of golden/wrath cookies, casting FtHoF to overlap with good results from that, and then triggering a big boost from Godzamok to complement the previous steps, how many are made at any other point are completely trivial in comparision (you should be making years or decades worth of your raw cookies per second each day by such combos). When you aren't present to make combos, just turn it off or minimize or whatever, or leave it full screen, it makes no meaningful difference.

Minimizing the game absolutely puts it into a "sleep mode" where it calculates CPS worse, but having the game behind another window should only cause calculation lag if your computer can't handle both Cookie and the other app's CPU/GPU usage simultaneously.

In my own experience it used to lag if another window was in front back when I had an FX CPU and a budget GPU, but on my new Ryzen rig it doesn't drop CPU/GPU usage while other windows are in front of it & remains running at full speed unless minimized.
