Is it necessary to do every season on every ascent to get the bonus?

More-less yes. Every ascension (once you have the season switcher) you'll need to go through and collect all the cookies for each season, all the Santa presents, etc. Easter is the hardest but you can use the Omelette as one of your carried over permanent upgrades to help out with that.

Yes, I normally do Christmas first and upgrade Santa and get all the immediately purchasable stuff, then Valentines and buy the cookies, then Easter to unlock all the eggs, then Halloween (Easter giving enough time for all the research to happen to spawn wrinklers at a decent rate), then finally back to Christmas for the Reindeer cookies.

There is an HC purchase to keep some of them from ascension to ascension, but it is only a chance for each one, so you still need to fill in the gaps so it doesn't make all that huge a difference. You can also store some of them (omelette is a fairly common choice), but you don't have enough slots to store all of a seasons boosts (and there are plenty of other things to store that are usually better options).

Does this sequence that you do, does it get faster as you go up in the ascent?

do it until you want to ascend again, I usually follow a guide and ascend once I get the levels I need for next buy
