Camera Angles in this game are extremely frustrating!
Camera Angles in this game are extremely frustrating!

I hate playing this game at all, due to this one thing.

I play on keyboard and mouse.
So, I cant target enemies on the 3d map unless I go into "top down" camera mode.

The thing is, Whenever I change the camera mode; it only lets me do this before I select my character and "act' with that character.

The very moment that I start selecting an action with that character; the camera resets back to 3d angle mode again!

VERY INFURIATING!

I have not figured out a way to make the game stop doing this!

I just want to easily switch between camera angles so that I can follow-through with a characters complete action sequence. Without the camera snapping back to its default setting (which is 3d angle mode).

Does anyone know how to stop the camera from resetting itself when I am in-between a characters action planning?

You can press the L button on your keyboard during battles to switch it to top-down view, it will stay like that until the battle is finish, which is when you need to press the L button again each time a new battle starts, i think the game will remember which camera view you use when loading a quick save on the title screen from the continue option but if it does not then the button i mention can be used to get it back to top-down view again.

So it it not a button that can be toggled between TOP and ANGLE throughout the battle? It just executes one way; until the next battle begins? And, only then, can I put it back to angle again?

If so... that sounds very limiting. I prefer to play in 3d Angle mode. Just, not when I need to direct some actions in battle! I need to 'see' around corners.

In, Final Fantasy: Tactics. We could easily rotate the camera around in 3d angles. To see around corner obstructions to better execute movements. It baffles me in that this game does not offer this.
This game wasn't built to be 3D. They're 2D maps from the SNES version that were upscaled and somewhat fiddled with to be able to zoom out and pivot.

They added the ability to shift to a top-down view when going to the PSP version, but the animations and all that were designed to play out with the default view in mind. So when someone takes an action, the camera shifts back to the default angle and then back to what you had it at when the action is over.
FFT did the same thing.

What he was talking about with the camera toggling is that you can swap between between default angle or either of the top-down angles, but every battle starts out in the default view instead of remembering what you had it at the end of your last battle.

The J button can be used to bring the top-down view back to the default view that every battle starts in whenever you need to, that and L are the buttons to change the camera angles during battles, there does not seem to be any way to have the camera be permanent on one view or the other without it resetting.

Same here, a top down view is better most of the time for turn-based games and rpg ones as well that use tiles to move units around on.

Thank you for the direction. I appreciate it.

I will try that out later and see if it brings me any convenience to work with.

I don't remember ever changing the controls, and what I've been doing is I just press middle mouse button to change the angle whenever I have an issue seeing anything in particular I'm trying to look at. It just cycles through 1 of 3 camera angles (two different top down orientations and a 3D view). I would like it if there was a way to rotate the 3D, but it's never been strictly necessary with the "middle mouse button tech."

Strange. My middle-mouse-button does not change the camera angle views at all. Unless having to first go into the sub-menu system every single time to physically change it for a moment.

Not sure what the deal is. There's no sub menuing involved. I'm just in battle, I want to change the angle, and so I press middle mouse and it changes. Works for me in scouting, works when it's my character's turn and the basic menu is up, works when I right click to close said basic menu and see my move range, etc. I tried checking the controls screen and I don't see a function that describes what I'm doing, and I can't seem to bind anything to middle mouse button.

The mouse I'm using is a Logitech G502 Hero. I don't have any fancy settings enabled in its management app, and the middle mouse button hasn't been reassigned to anything. Wish I could help more. :rbrb3:

Thanks. Ok I got the middle mouse wheel going now. The way you describe it.
The only thing is. After I change camera angle. As soon that I click on my Character (for his turn), and attempt to make an action. Click. It immediately resets the camera angle to the previous! Like, it wont STAY on the angle that I am trying to keep it on. Weird. Again this only happens once I click on a Character's "action" menu list.

I am also Using a Logitech G5
