Blowguns
So I immediately put a blowgun on my beast tamer when I unlocked it, and the moment my character started dealing only 1 damage with every attack I tried to look into why. In the process I read that blowguns are supposed to be a status effect weapon? My beast tamer has unlocked the blowgun finishing move, but he's not learning anything else to do with the weapon itself.

Can anyone explain to me the purpose of this weapon? He does piddling damage with both it and a regular bow, I'm not sure how much longer I can keep using my BT as a ranged unit like this.

I use my Beast Tamer as just a tanky healer that deals status effects and manages beasts when I see them in the Scouting view of missions.

She has a petridart blowgun for petrifying attempts (and the finisher does a little damage, especially against Air units), and she has Lobber with 4 mend seeds (or 3 and a Weakened/Breached status effect item for some bosses).

In my view I don't have her there to really deal damage (except maybe should beasts be on the map). The blowgun works well as a secondary weapon to that.

The base blowgun isn't really useful for damage or anything other than training up the weapon skill in the early game. But every other blowgun you'll get or craft after that one will have an associated status effect with it on hit. I already got a stundart blowgun as a drop (I'm in the middle of Chapter 2, so it can drop at least by then) and I remember in the PSP version abusing the petridart blowgun to an absurd degree.

Also, with enough stats on a character they CAN do decent damage against lightly armored targets too. I remember them being surprisingly good at killing ghosts for example in the PSP version.
If you didn't know.. blowgun with ailment are also gives that unit immunity to same ailment (e.g poison blowgun gives poison immunity)

Seem weak? give it to class that have high ranged attack (like Juggernaut).

Also some of blowgun are cheap to craft and can sell it for high. If you are short on goth, consider do some crafting.

Blowguns usually also have good base stats on top of the status effect, so they work great as an offhand stat-stick if you don't need or can't equip a shield. Kinda standard build for a rogue in psp was dagger and blowgun with counterattack, so you would counter closeish ranged attacks with a chance to charm or whatever.

I had the same issue - try claws. If you run with a beast near by (like I do with my dragon), it's a good combo. Like other said, you can make it work elsewhere and it can be used as support. But a combo of a beast tamer and their beast is, well, beast.

eagle eye on archers will guarantee weapon procs from blowgun

so put that on an archer and stand them next to your blowgun wielder, problem solved

same goes for vigorous attack and melee procs

Blowguns are really, really gamebreaking in certain hands.

Damage isn't the focus of blowguns.

Archer have ability that give ally 100% accuracy on ranged attack debuff. Now couple that with perti-blowguns ninja/beast tamer you will have your certain enemy locked into pertify.
Ninja can land 2 debuff of your choice with blowgun (with help of archer) so be creative with it.
