Why does everyone do so little damage?
Am a good bit of the way through chapter 1. At first my characters all were doing decent damage and I was able to win most battles with some decent challenge. But as its been going on, everyone is doing less and less damage. In the battle I'm in now, vs a beastmaster with some gryphons, my characters are doing on average 50-60 damage per attack, if I'm lucky. Some characters doing 10-20 damage, or less. Considering the enemies have about 600 HP, this is just pathetic. And the enemies do a lot more damage than me, maybe 100-150 damage per attack.

I've bought all the best weapons available to me. All the characters are using weapons that they are skilled in (skill level ~6, character level ~9). There's no reason why they should be doing such pathetic levels of damage.

Magic is even worse. Spells do maybe 30 or 40 damage. There's no obvious reason that this is happening and there's no clear way that I can improve the damage.

Is this just a problem with this game? Seems like the only thing I can do is, whenever the party level raises, I need to grind my whole team to the max level, just to be able to proceed.

Am I doing something wrong or is this game just broken?

In the PSP version. But they've advertised (or at least stated on twitter, referring to it as "a way to theorycraft your favorite character builds!") that they brought back class-based stat growth for this one.

I'm hoping that wasn't BS and so far it seems to be true, but I haven't fully checked yet.
i noticed a very huge damage reduction when theres a level difference, like if you are 2 levels below enemy you do almost no damage to them, with same equipment and skills but 1 level below, you do much more, and you do full amount when levels are equal, why is there even a need of such system? to make low level characters even more pathetic and useless in battle than they are, i dont understand

The different stats growth is just HP and MP growth.

About lacking of damage. You need to breach enemy to make physical damage do any damage. Thats why item important.

The huge boost to HP doesn't make much sense to me. I mean at level 18, monsters have over 2000 HP. That's insane given how most also have crazy damage, crazy defense and crazy abilities. And it's not like damage scaled along with HP, I feel like I'm doing the same damage as always unless I luck out with a crit on an opposing element or something. Maybe that's what they are going for?

Debuff them and buff yourself. you will see big difference. For monster they are intended to be tanky but having high aggro by enemy archer or mage because their overall defense rather low because lack of armor.

Just example on how debuff play big role in fight is, 100 without debuff, with breach the damage going up to like 300, then now add fear on top of breach it will become around 450. On top of that if the enemy is beast add beast bane from dragoon, thats now 2x damage. If you add beast slayer on top of that that will be another multiplier. There is also Aerion plume that can raise physical damage, thats another multiplier.

to certain extent I feel like the combat is less raw stats and more tactical choices on buffs, debuffs etc. I like it personally.
