Unfortunately they removed the ability to recruit non-humans in shops with the PSP version and this remains.

You need to get to the higher tier caster class - Warlock/Sorceress - who have the skill to recruit golems. Then you need to recruit them mid battle, which is potentially harder now since there are no random battles anymore.

Oh I know. I just miss being able to recruit a Golem immediately at Almorica and naming him Cassius (because he's made of clay, you see).

I have yet to see a single instance of recruit that is above 0%. For real, doesn't matter how much HP they have, what status ailments are afflicted, every Human, Lizard or Fey I try to recruit is 0%.

You can't recruit non-human units with the normal recruit skill since the PSP version (which this takes off from).
Each non-human unit has a specialized recruit skill locked to particular classes.
Canopus (as a Vartan) can recruit fairies, Wizards/Enchantresses can recruit lizards. Beast Tamers recruit Beasts and Dragons. Warlocks recruit Golems. And I think it's Necromancers/Liches that recruit undead if I recall correctly.

Yeah, I know that. I've got the abilities to recruit all I mentioned, and I've tried as I ran across them, but nothing gives me any percentage to work. I know they've got a loyalty score somewhere, but even high loyalty should still have a small % chance.

Well then I dunno what to tell you. I failed when I tried to recruit a fairy the first time with Canopus, and at low HP had a roughly 25-35% chance of success, and similar results with both the beasts and lizards I tried with my Beast Tamers and Wizards. So far only been able to recruit humans, but I at least had a greater than 0% chance whenever I tried the others.

just buy some golem, old version you can get them at a shop or something but its kinda late in the game... but im not sure that was long time ago

....so apparently the closer you are, the higher the percentage? As in like 2 tiles away = 0%, but directly next to them = 36%. >.>

So yeah, operation "Recruit better gear from Pharampa Woods" is a go.
