Why is this game called Tactics Ogre in the first place?

Ogres? I feel as though the title doesn't really capture the vibes of this masterpiece. Am I missing something?

Look up Oni. The Japanese equivalent. They are a popular antagonist and monster that represents many bad human qualities.

Quest wanted a fantasy role-playing series to rival Square’s Final Fantasy and Enix’s Dragon Quest. Matsuno (et al) created the world and lore of the Ogre saga…with the first game’s name, Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen, deriving from Queen (the rock band) song titles.
