How to quick save during a battle?
I've tried the small three lined (menu/start) button on the Xbox controller, but often it does nothing. I've tried the escape key on the keyboard, and it often doesn't bring me to a menu with the system option that allows the exit to title and quick save.

So sometimes I've been in a battle (I'm early game, just about 4 hours in) but I need to go do something else and I can't figure out how to exit.

I've tried the likely suspects, and they usually don't work to get me to a menu from which I can exit to title screen. I keep trying them and eventually, accidentally it seems to me, one of them will suddenly work and I can exit. Perhaps they only work in certain contexts?

Would like to clearly understand how to be able to exit a battle to title and quick save. Is there a certain set of steps to follow to exit a battle to title and quick save, either using the controller or the keyboard?

Thanks.

as far as i remember take the menu option to return to title screen, it'll make a 'quicksave' of your current fight. when you get back load it up using the 'continue' option.

just remember to save the game normally on the map screen from time to time too as the quick saves are temporary and get removed when you continue. :)

I swear I read on a Japanese site while looking for information for my 100% Events Guide that there's a way to bypass the temporary quicksave, but I couldn't find it when I looked again. Something goes screwy when you try to load quicksaves that aren't supposed to be there. I think there's a different file somewhere that stores part of the quicksave's information and the one that appears in your save folder contains the rest.

yeah but that's only relevant if you're trying to save scum and item from say CODA4 by manually backing up and copy/pasting quick save files around :P

For the most part, yeah. In my case, I ended a stream towards the end of a fight but wanted to back it up in case something happened. Trying to do so caused issues and I had to redo the fight from the beginning when I started the next stream.

it might have a address file or something as part of the main game somewhere that the memory dump quick save is called in by when you go to lead and if things don't match up properly it'll have issues.

Yeah in the case that I had I somehow got the save file crossed with a save on the world map, and loading the file put me on the world map instead of in the battle, landlocked at Coritanae (couldn't move anywhere) and the Warren Report was alllllllll messed up. It had 4 different versions of the cutscene where you talk to Olivya at Briganty's listed one after another.

sounds like a good way to get that 100% completion with viewing all cut scenes. now you just need to work out a proper method to target specific scenes :P

Thank you Zoid13, but how do I get to the screen shown in the image you posted? I've tried the escape key on the keyboard, and I've tried the small three lined (start/menu) on my Xbox controller, and NEITHER ALWAYS gets me to that screen as I would think they are supposed to. (Either I am doing something wrong, or something freaky is happening.)

You can't be in a character's turn menu or anything like that. Right click (or B button) until all options disappear and you're just on the battle map with the ability to select units.

If you're using an xbox controller, the 3 lines should bring up that menu.
If you're using mouse and keyboard, right-click.

From there, System Menu > Return to Title (Quick Save)
