Not asking this in a cheeky way. What's the point of this place? Preferably no spoilers if there would be some sort of spoiler explaining it in depth. "There's a mega strong weapon at the end of it all" or something works fine as an answer.

grinding levels and money.

It's a great place to recruit monsters, and farm materials for crafting. In the earlier game, there are some classes you can encounter there that you may not be able to buy in the store at that point like ninjas, swordmasters and warlocks.

In the post game, I abuse the second map to farm dragons for auctioning to get orbs (steak is a side bonus). Auctioning a dragon will let you buy 2 classmarks of that dragon type, so you can do an infinite loop of recruiting dragons of x type, changing them to y type and auctioning to get y type elemental orbs.

Some equipment is only available there. The main point is it has unique maps for some variety and challenge.

Thanks for the responses.

How do I make money from it? Do people drop those coins? Also what are elemental orbs used for? Crafting?

Yeah enemies drop coins and usually the equivalent of pocket lint (cheap crafting mats). Sometimes you'll get a piece of equipment based on their level or a classmark, but those are much rarer.
Elemental orbs can be used as crafting mats in the late game, but can also be used as consumable throwing weapons like the elemental Shot items used by someone with the Lobber skill. The radius and damage is higher with the orbs, and they also apply debuffs. They're also very expensive, so not exactly super efficient to farm orbs to use, but if you keep a couple in your pocket in case of an emergency, you can turn some difficult maps into stomps.

Every single battle in the Phorampa Wildwood has multiple Oberyths as Bonus Objective Rewards. Those can be sold to the Shop for Goth.

Elemental Orbs are consumable items used to craft endgame-tier equipment. Their on-use effects are long-range Special Attacks that have large areas of effect, have a chance to inflict a Status Effect/Debuff, and deal no damage to ally units.

However, (like all Special Attacks in this game) the Weapon ATK, Physical/Racial/Elemental Damage Bonuses, and STR/DEX Bonuses of their user's main-hand Weapon will not be applied to their damage calculations unless said Weapon is 1-Handed and has an accompanying offhand Weapon/Shield equipped.

So you are supposed to be able to recruit monsters though? I tried to recruit a gryphon with my beast master and it was zero percent. I was only one tile away and the gryphon was below ten percent health. A bit confused about that.

Again thank you for your responses :)

Edit: nevermind, it looks like a status effect I had on the gryphon was preventing me from recruiting it. I think "terror" or whatever. The scared effect. I really appreciate all the responses here, you guys are awesome.
