Either just use the guides here on Steam or make sure to add "Reborn" when googling. The differences between this version of the game and the original SNES version are very substantial.
To me, the only key difference between Mage and Warlock was that Warlock had tools for Golems. Either recruiting or beating.
There are other differences, but thats all that mattered for me in my playthroughs.
Wizards are better than Warlocks 90% of the time, that being when you aren't fighting any Golems. This is due to them having Conserve RT, honestly not an amazing skill but better than anything Warlock has, that being nothing.
Wizard is just better imo
