Cerya AI is awful
I'm on the neutral route and trying to save her but no matter what, she always goes closer to Oz and keeps getting killed. She even attacks him, which causes him to counter to do 250 dmg. Why are you like this

Huh, that's funny.... I remember saving Hoborym at Vahanna on 3c and he at least spent two turns running towards my location before opening a can of whoop ass. (He always did otherwise back on PS1).

I guess Cerya is just super pissed at Oz, still. XD

I just charioted my way through that fight because she's a suicidal moron. Some things never change.

If you throw a gryphon or 2 with a bunch of healing items at her, it can work.
Gryphons have high HP and not so great defensive ratings, so they work really well as damage sponge ambulances.

Thankfully, Cerya was pretty good about running towards me on my Neutral foray. Oz however, was a pain and crapped my no incaps, which spun my interest to a Law game.

I cheesed it by doing the infinite Goth exploit and upgraded everyone's gear with the +1. It increased their movement range and reduced some of their RT. Also got lucky with Cerya finally running towards me and actually hiding.

If memory serves, she starts that battle Leadened anyways, so anything but a full on rush to heal her and knock out Oz asap will leave you unsuccessful.

Yup, the leadened definitely doesn't help. But why is she so bad at directions

It's mostly because the AI prioritizes doing damage unless the character is already low on HP. Considering she starts at full HP and isn't as heavily geared as the enemy (plus her slightly lower base RT), she'll get her turn first and go "well, I'm at full HP and there's an enemy in range. Guess I'll bonk them." Would be nice if the AI could recognize that they're "too deep" and pull back towards your allies, but that would be an AI pattern that's only applicable in a handful of fights. Rather than applying this to a bunch of different AI scripts, it would be nice if escort characters had a specialized AI that applied to all of them that prioritizes moving towards your own units until a distance threshold is met, and then functioning normally.
If the coding is made similar to Disgaea 6, could add 2 turns of "Move towards Denam > Use Item" and give her a basin item for fortify and a somewhat higher rank healing item. The fortify would help her survive the first turn if the enemy decide to go for her, and then she'd heal it up and keep going towards you on the 2nd turn. By then you should be at least close enough to attract the enemy's attention.

For escort maps, I like to run both an undead and regular gryphon. They have high HP and low defense, so the enemy will prioritize hitting them. The undead in particular will have lower defense and get focused first, but it can be sacrificed due to enemy never having exorcism. Can give the gryphons healing/buff items as well, and you almost never have to worry about them getting knocked into pits outside of the rare case where they're leadened.

I ended up upgrading everyone's equipment with the infinite Goth exploit. It'll increase everyone's move distance and it's mainly about getting any flying unit (I used Canopus, didn't have anyone else) in between Oz's soldiers. Even better if you have high healing items in case the unit you send can't use healing spells. As for dealing with Oz, using Dynast King's Mead on him helps a lot since it puts him into Breach status.
This is a difficult challenge but there's a few tips that made it go from "what the ♥♥♥♥?!" to "Ok, I can do this with some luck"...

First thing, make sure you have a few hawkmen. Beastmasters and Clerics are helpful because they can move further and higher. Go to the Deepwoods if you need to recruit some more.

Second thing, upgrade your gear and equip beastmasters with salves/seeds. Upgrade staffs to increase spell range (helpful for your clerics) and leg/foot gear so you can get more movement range. The salves/seeds should almost serve as full heals. Might need to craft a few +1 or +2's.

Third thing, try to move up to the stairwell and block off the enemies from coming down. It can be a bit hectic but if you can hold the position for long enough you can get your team up the wall and have better space to handle defense and offense.

Final thing, pray for luck with the AI. Cerya will do some stupid ♥♥♥♥ sometimes, and other times she will move exactly where you want her. Just try to body block the enemy and her from reaching each other while maintaining heals and focus damage on the Dark Knight leader.

As mentioned in other posts you can exploit too but you don't have to. Use some debuff/buffing items too so Oz is weakened etc etc.

Goodluck!

I did the Neutral Route on the first time. It was definitively the hardest battle on the whole game, more than the "final boss". You really need to upgrade everything you have, make the tactic cited to block off enemies on the stairwell and hope that he AI not go suicidal.

Flying Hawkmen Beastmaster lobbing full HP pots into her works. Also get Canopus up there, they love to attack him.
