So far it's working out pretty well, but the real test will be how he eventually fares in PotD (have a 2nd run coming up for CODA 2).
That's awesome, I am sure there are many great builds. I am slowly making my way through POTD in chaos. Will be neat to see what builds for coda work best.
I use a 2H Dark Cursed Sword, Rampart Aura, Lament of the Dead, Berserk and Mighty Impact, paired with Sidhe Boots. ( Jup, no Mastery, this build doesn't need the Finishers , all it wants is Berserker Mighty Impacts and the extra damage it gives is not worth giving up Rampart )
I scaled my Denam very tanky and with this build he feels like the perfect frontliner.
I play it as the "I'm going to that spot over there in three turns, and there's nothing you can do to stop me," assault guy. That-spot-over-there is usually where the boss is, and if nothing stops Denam, he'll smash the boss. If anything stops him, he smashes through them, or uses winged shoes to bypass Rampart nets and continue the push forward.
2h sword and hammer give ranged finisher options for when you end up just short of a surrounded target (making summons suboptimal), but the big nuke is Sanguine Assault+Berserk
I've already moved on from Whips as the skill got maxed out. Then Daggers. Now on 1H-Katanas with Femakk's Blowgun (had been working that up along with Daggers).
In the PSP version I usually finalized Denam with the Gran Grimoire, as I otherwise never used books, and I liked hitting the Radius cast on it. With how Lord works in this game I doubt I go that route though.
You can exchange Lament with Meditate if you always want to always have enough MP for a Sanguine, or allow your Denam to have a chance to get enough MP if newly resurrected. This is great for rushing him to the boss. You can also carry the spell that gives swiftness so if you have a turn where you can't reach the enemy yet just cast that buff on yourself, or a teamate. Alternatively you can use the Speedster auto ability which is never bad, but I personally prefer the MP charging then just apply the quickness manually on myself every so often then pocket the rest of the MP for later use.
Teleport or Flying Boots so he can hop over obstacles to find the path of least resistance. I was able to beat PotD 100 by having just Denam, and a "Dynast King Mead" lobber (Canopus) by having them sneak around the high elevated parts of the map to try to kill the boss in one turn with the combo. It worked after about 2-3 attempts.
If you want to have fun with status elements you can give him Meditate + Eagle Eye + Blowgun + The skill that lets you get an instant crit with a ranged weapon. If eagle eye, or the crit still procs with a weapon that can inflict a status ailment then it has a 100% chance to land unless the target is immune entirely. You can petrify, or charm an opponent every turn. I don't think its as good as the Berserk Lord, but it can be a fun alternative.
Can also never go wrong with Meditate + Any Weapon Skill. Being able to accumulate the MP fast to spam those finishers is always a benefit most other classes can't do except for maybe Rune Fencer / Valkyrie.
He can also equip both Paradigm shift (dark spell), and MP 0 auto ability. So if the MP 0 triggers then you can get a free cast of Paradigm shift to exchange your one turn for a chance to give 3-4 friendly units a turn.
Finally we have Double Strike + Mighty Strike. Where the Mighty Strike will always make both attacks land a critical hit, and the first hit won't knock back the enemy so they can both consistently land. Its good damage output that isn't as good as the Berserk build mentioned earlier, but this one can be utilized by another special character class other than Lord Denam whom I won't spoil.
Long story short - Lord Denam is a beast.
This sounds amazing. I'm going to try that out next.
