Nope, you should be good to go.

The Xenobian knights you meet at the beginning are from March of the Black Queen, and the "bad guy" knight from Lodis is in the GBA game. If you got the "secret" ending, you know who it is.

Worth noting that the way the game talks about the setting and politics makes it seem like you should know a lot about it from previous games, but that is absolutely not true. Even if you've played the others, most of the casually mentioned history and political personages are not talked about elsewhere: its just to make it feel like part of a long-running series (this is chapter 7, although it was the second one made, and only one more has been made in the saga since). Think how Star Wars started with episode 4, if that helps.

Even though it says "Episode 7", only 2 games were actually made. It's like Star Wars.

Similar to how the issues in Valeria get mentioned in Episode VI, which is the third game.

Nope. If you play March of the Black Queen, that ties in to some of the characters and things going on, but it's not required. The game does a pretty good job of illustrating what's happened prior how it connects with this game, and the really important characters from it often get entries in the Warren Report if you want to know more.

You don't need to play any of the other ones.

Though March of the Black Queen is an epic game, and should be played on it's own merits. Still one of my favorite games of all time.

Valeria is part of a bigger world, and there are influences on it from the other countries, but it's very much a sidenote.
For the purpose of this game, you can just look at Xenobia as the good country, and Lodis as the big bad.

That said, if you've gotten the "true" ending of TO:KoL, the meanings behind the Loslorien's actions in this game are possibly a lot more complex. Lodis has a lot of court politics, so it's somewhat possible that Lanselot's goals were benevolent, but some of his men have other loyalties back home. I'm sure Alphonse would have some strong words for the lot of them.

They really should give us another game with a bigger scope. I'd like a story that spans across the entire world and involves all factions.

I mean, Lanselot's "Goal" was to have Catiua sit on the throne and Valeria to become a puppet for Lodis. The whole Brynhildr thing was mostly just his back up in case there was no other option to bring Valeria under their control. Eventually, other knights learned of this and, well, yeah... I imagine lanselot knows the power behind the Brynhildr, considering all the ♥♥♥♥ Alphonse went through for Longinus.

Yeah it's the whole Brynhildr thing that I think is complicated.
When you think about the Dark Knights, though, they just so happen to be supporting the Bakram, who by (most) rights would be the rightful imperial court.

I imagine Lanselot knew there was more at play, when he was assigned to aid the Bakram, and used the various feuding to try to find the true successor. Not to mention his "Accidentally" finding Catiua would mean they wouldn't need the sword, or the suspicions it drew acquiring it. Meaning it would legitamize everything Lanselot/Lodis wants.
