You cannot recruit the generic templars. Most of them also have the skill set of the normal, generic classes as well, if you look at their skills during the battle, so you aren't really missing out on anything other than their unique appearances.

There are plenty of NPC only classes/units.
If you want Lodisian units, better dig PotD.

IDK if it is true in this one, but the 2 other versions they were the same as base classes, but with like 10% higher stat growth. Which in the original, meant a lot, and in the PSP version meant basically nothing.

i got all templars and they are the classes we have but have juiced up stats no special skills or anything

I actually hacked those generic templar knights on psp, and also the other dark knights other than ozma. I have to say they are all disappointing. One ozma beats them all

I have a templar classmark, but nobody can actually use it.
