for example, every melee weapon gets a damage bonus from STR and DEX, however, some melee weapons get more from STR than DEX.
STR favoured: 1H/2H Sword, Fist, Axe, Hammer, Spear, 2H Katana, Whip, Cudgel, Book.
DEX favoured: Dagger, 1H Katana, Instrument, Bow, Crossbow, Fusil.
which means, all else fails, the STR favored weapons get more damage from STR than DEX, but, they'll get bonuses from both stats.
and for the Cudgel/Book, it's only for their melee damage, but they still favor STR. obviously, you don't wanna actually go smack them with those weapons... because you'll do 1 damage, unless you're using a Cursed Cudgel or one of the few that has decent melee attack. casters 100% wand INT and MND.
honestly, except for the DEX favored weapons, either stat works perfectly fine for boosting damage. Daggers/1H Katana and the ranged weapons heavily favor DEX over STR for damage, though, where as the other melee weapons are roughly equal.
Aside from the usual breach and enfeeble item strat, it's typically a matter of killing the healer first. Most knights are susceptible to poison if you cast it from a character with a high MIND stat (like Donnalto), but if healers are present they will cure that right away.
Do you have access to crafting yet?
E.g piercing doesn't do much on heavy armoured enemies but blunt works best on such enemies. So base stats alone doesn't do well if your weapon choice is bad.
