Just Tarot Scum in order to recruit.
Knock the creature you want into the red, then try to recruit standing right next to it. If you can charm the creature, it should give you an even better shot at it. If you fail, use the chariot to rewind and try again standing in a different spot.
Anyway this does simplify things, as long as your target is recruitable, low hp, and you have the right skill and are within a tiles range you can recruit with anyone as opposed to needing a dedicated character with Coax levelled or whatever.
This is part of the convolution. It's modified by the enemies' loyalty. The higher the loyalty, the lower your chance and the inverse applies as well. You can't directly see how much loyalty they have, but you can look at their stats, press the ? button and then check the portrait and it will indicate their loyalty. All pointless, just Tarot your way into recruitment.
Next, is the enemy's loyalty. As mentioned above, you can find it in the enemy's condition description. Lower loyalty means higher chances.
Finally, HP, as has already been discussed.
When using Tarot to redo your chances, make sure to take different actions. If you take the same actions, it uses the same results. So attack someone first, etc, to get a different seed.
