Only AI flub I've really seen has just been like ... in the fight at Ndamsa Fort to save Cistina, Folcurt for some reason ran to the very right side of the map where there's no enemies and tall walls that he can't jump up. Not sure if the AI thought this was a good position to be, but he was basically useless the entire fight.
That was thefight where Catiua ran straight up into the middle of the fort, spiritsurged someone who didn't even die, and then promptly got pot shot by all enemies >_> Almost as bad as when she gave Xapan a lovetap in Rhime, but at least that made it easier for Denam to run away.
Ranged units may be the worst offenders, with wizards and clerics usually preferring either to waste RT by running back and forth, or punching for 1 damage, when it would be preferable to stand still and wait for a Meditate proc next turn.
Oh, and most egregiously, the AI will not ever use buff or debuff skills/spells. The developers assigned things like Sleep, Paralytic Wave and Poison Cloud to enemies, but they will never be used. Let me repeat: The AI will not ever use these spells despite clearly being intended to.
Other than that, I've found the guest missions *significantly* easier than the PSP and PS1 versions.
Like when OP says Mage Guest, and Barbarian, I'm suspecting Bryan. In my fight with that situation, they focused almost entirely on me except 1 person and I had 2 main healers and a knight so 1 person was on the side healing him when needed. He was actually pretty smart, kept his distance and was at the high point just bombarding enemies with spells, good man.
Catua was inconsistent with her work. I gave her the Spirit Blast (Which pisses me off cause I used to let Father Presence use that and be as deadly as a wizard back in PS1, now he can't!) and 1/3rd of the battles she is completely useless, 1/3 she does her job fine, and 1/3 of the time she was just a BEAST going out of her way to obliterate strays in full Yandere Mode.
And then there's this one guy...middle of the map at the start, I'm making decent progress towards him and he has a gun. You would think he'd advance towards me while using his gun on the enemies and this would be a really easy job, but no. He decides he's gonna bury himself as deep into enemy lines as possible and literally be impossible to save. I could have had Canopus have the good healing stuff and not even he would have reached him in time.
AND THEN there's the Necromancer...I don't think I need to say anything about that. I fuggin PRAYED they would have patched this fight and just let that tart teleport out of the fight or something but they made it even harder because clearly I didn't hate life enough wanting to get her in the first place. Really feeling like a dumbass for calling my army "Marrowborn" when I can't have any skeletons! -_-
Gotta rename my army "Dragonborn" and turn Denam into a Beast master., and run with 8 dragons. XD
if you run into something like this again, like others suggested, get a hawkman beastmaster to lob healing items onto him, or do my favorite: petrify him. petrification increases their defense immensely and prevents them from acting.
The AI seems to stumble blindly on them most of the time, rather than make a conscious decision to pick on up. And worse still, sometimes the AI, falling back randomly... for some reason, insted of stopping on a tile with a card, will just stop right next to one even tho the had the move range, so that when an enemy comes to bonk them on the head they'll get a buff card as well.... Ugh..
Dragons are awesome, I recently found a bunch of Flood dragons in the forest, they have water walk which is super useful, and they have breath that causes breach, so I run one fire dragon and one flood dragon plus they lob rocks with huge range for huge damage to soft targets. around level 20 you also get dragon scale that reduced damage taken by 50% and reflects 100% damage back at the enemy. I also use a griffon and a chicken, Griffon is much better though, it has blood syphon, a 100% damage converts to his HP and a giant Wind blast aoe, plus dash2, when triggering giving him 3 exta move so he can collect damage cards all over the battlefield and lob rocks at healers. Lolz I have been gradually replacing everyone with monsters haha.
Boulders are great vs any class, as the damage doesn't drop off like archers. So Gryphon lobbers make good harrassers in maps with high ground, especially since you can throw outside your range.
This is possible using the Fearless Cheat Engine file. If you're familiar at all with CE, enabling this part is pretty intuitive. Just tested it now- even allows you to control all the guest allies during the initial tutorial battles.
