This is mostly due to Archers literally being just that good, but there are several other factors involved as well, including being able to overlevel your enemies, weaker bosses, grimoires, and more.

The original version any% fastest speedrun: 3:51. 3 runs submitted over a 29 year period.
The psp version any% fastest speedrun: 3:37. 2 runs submitted over a 14 year period.
Reborn any% non-NG+ fastest speedrun: 15:12. 1 run submitted over a 1.5 year period.
For direct comparison's sake I compared 2 battles from the speedruns, a rout map and a target leader map.
The first hanging gardens map:
Reborn took around 11 minutes.
PSP took around 7 minutes. This included multiple archer 1 hit kills, and anything that wasn't a one hit kill was a 2 hit kill.
The final hanging gardens map (with boss Andoras):
Reborn took around 15 minutes and 30 seconds.
PSP took... about 3 minutes.
I know for a fact the Reborn run could be heavily sped up, but in spite of that, the PSP version is faster. It most certainly does NOT take 100+ hours of grinding to oneshot enemies in the PSP POTD.
The fight against Andoras in PSP speedrun is a lvl22 army vs lvl33 squad of archers to snipe him down.
Take the same file and go into PotD and suddenly your lvl33 archers are trying to snipe lvl32 dragons and stuff. It is not quite the same. Especially on first dive, you're looking at a gear disadvantage, quite possibly a stat disadvantage, and a limited damage profile. You're not going to be 1-shotting anything with a Siege Bow+1 in PotD with that setup, unless you spent X hours grinding out Bow/Anatomy skill levels.
Again, the 100% video I linked the guy had probably about 40 hours on his file, with probably good 10+ of minmaxed skill grinding on Tynemouth, and he still wasn't 1-shotting everything.
It is just undeniable that you can easily one or two shot just about everything in the PSP version, that includes a lot of enemies to you too. That is just how it was balanced.
Pretty much my thoughts exactly. ANYONE including a dev that tries to force me to play in a way different than I ME personally want too is retarded. I'm the only one that knows what's fun for me i don't give a flying ♥♥♥♥ what the dev find's fun. Or their vision after all games are meant to be fun above all else plan and simple. Luckily though i have cheat engine to fix his mistakes and make the game actually fun for myself but it's still ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that i had to resort to that.
Or it's satire, which is still good.
What I wanted from a "Reborn" version of this was something that was actually a true blend of both the original and the PSP version. My issue with Reborn is that it initially feels like it *should* be better, but ends up being watered down more than the PSP version, and still has a lot of the jank that the SNES version has somehow.
What I wanted:
* Random Encounters like the original game (primarily for recruits so you can go to areas that you wanted to fish for certain units you wanted to recruit like say... A lizardman or something).
* Level based on Unit rather than the job nonsense from the PSP (because starting a unit over when you get a new class is beyond stupid).
* The original's office recruitment where they had specific recruitment groups based on the town you were in.
* Training like the original version of the game where you could pit your units against yourself to see how they fair against one another etc.
* Job unlocks / Upgrades like the original where you reached a combination of level and stat thresholds (I really liked the customization of stats in the original game, and combining that with the PSP would have been wonderful in my eyes).
* Expanded job list from the PSP.
* Better spell stat scaling like the OG where spells were better with scaling instead of having to be primarily based on tiered scaling (this gets really awful in Reborn with the reduced spell list)
* Removal of the card upgrade system or at least an alteration to it where you could use a card on a unit to change to a class that they hadn't unlocked (which makes it make sense to be a consumable item at that point, but stuff like Lord seems ridiculous to be a card rather than a job you can just freely switch to).
Like... I could go on and on about what I would have liked from Reborn. As it stands, anytime I feel like playing Reborn, I'd rather play the original or the PSP version over Reborn. It just manages to be overly convoluted for something simple like the original , and manages to be underwhelming and lacking in a ton of features from the PSP version to scratch the itch of building up to people. Plus, it is as the OP says, the cards are an eyesore. Sure, you can get used to them, but it's one of those things that you honestly really shouldn't have to.
