Many thousands of years before the games, or maybe hundreds, it isn't really clear, there was a great war between the heavens, with "angels" but not in the Judeo-Christian way, and Ogres (which just means demon, ogres are a kind of demon in Japanese mythology). Bunch of heroes came up, fought, big old war, all that good stuff. There were 3 heroes that managed to essentially win the war, and became immortal up in the heavens. They created a number of magic weapons. The entire Ogre Battle Saga actually centers around these weapons in a way.
Alphonse Loeher is from Lodis, he goes over to Overia in Tactics Ogre: Knight of Lodis, and has a little adventure. **SPOILERS**

essentially the cannon story is he joins the Church of Lodis with Cybelle, Cybil, something like that. His lady love dies, and so does his best friend, and he kind of hardens as a person. Realizes that his being...merciful is, in the end, why his love died. So he cuts that part out. Loeher wasn't his real name, it is Tartaros, he comes from a powerful family in Lodis, part of a military order essentially. This isn't ever explicitly stated, but seems to indicate Lanselot Tartaros' military ties are what led the Church to become more successful in their militarization.
Years later, Prince of Zenobia happens. As stated, it leads into Episode V, Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen. After MOTBQ, Lanselot and Lanselot have their duel, Tartaros loses his eye, and all of it was over a magic weapon. Those also play a role in MOTBQ, though it is made to be more about the warriors that wield the weapons.
After MOTBQ, the main characters split off, some going to Episode VI, Person of Lordly Caliber, and some going over to Episode VII, Tactics Ogre.
So really, they are:
Episode 4.9, Tactics Ogre: Knight of Lodis
4.9999, Prince of Zenobia,
5, Ogre Battle,
6. OB64
7. Tactics Ogre
8. Please give to us!

this has nothing to do with Ogre battle story.
Yes.
In response to someone giving a list of the games in episode order. Saying that the 8th episode is this game that has nothing to do with Ogre battle series.
8 is just a joke. Obviously it's not actually part 8. English your second language?
And no, I did not actually say that it's part of Ogre Battle.
Ok the autism level is too high for me here. Anyway, Lunatic Dawn is the best non-OB, OB-like game (especially the combat and party building) I've ever played. Do whatever you want with that.
Reported.
Maybe don't call people a piece of crap if you don't wanna be reported.
Maybe don't act like a horrible human being if you don't want to be called out on it.
Calling someone a piece of crap, a jerk and
"they suck" is also horrible and if the moderators enforce evenly, he will also get a warning.
tldr
It's like an unofficial number 8, obviously not THE number 8.
