How much of a tower defense this game is?
Is it mostly a colony game with a light touch of combat or something more balanced?

Its factorio-esque game but with bots and drones instead of conveyors.

There are 3 PvE settings, off, which means no enemies, passive, which means the enemies are there, but you need to clear them to get to resources and they won't attack you and active, which means once an in-game day enemies will spawn out of nearby ruins and attack your base.

Pick a setting that feels more balanced for you.

Right now, the battles are mostly PvE with creatures you come across on the map. The deeper you go on research tree, the more creatures you'll run into, and they'll get tougher. If you take a look at our roadmap, you'll see we’re planning a big combat update down the line that will add PvP. We’ve still got a lot of work ahead in that area

I'm not interested in PvP, sorry. I prefer games where there is pressure from hostiles, but ideally, it should be adjustable. Think of the Biters from Factorio: some players prefer a peaceful run, focused solely on the logistical challenge, while others play on a Death World, with a diverse range of preferences in between. More specifically, how proactive are your creatures? Do they actively attack, or do you simply encounter them by chance? I notice very few player screenshots showing walls, though some do have them.

I to would like to know the answer to this.

Sorry, I misunderstood your question. At the moment, the game is not a Tower Defence at all. The creatures on the map only attack when you get very close to them. You can also start the game in a mode where they won’t attack you at all until you initiate the first attack

Thanks for the clarification. Although the Store page does not categorize the game as tower defense, the second video can be misleading.

If you watch it again, in the second part, you'll see several waves of creatures attacking the base. In fact, the video concludes with the end of the colony due to the creatures' attack. So, it seems that scenario can't happen...

Further thoughts on this...

I don't understand (and regret, because I enjoy facing a threat while building my colony) why the feature clearly shown in the second video, i.e., the ability of creatures to launch a concerted attack against the colony, has been removed. I'm not seriously considering that this feature was never part of the game and that the video was scripted with something never present in the game, but the thought did cross my mind...

Why not cater to all players by offering it as an option? You already have a pacifist mode, as you mentioned, so why not provide the opposite as well?
