question about aggression
what decides the wave strength when the enemy is set to aggressive? is it time? my own "wealth"? tech level? a combination?

my concern is that this setting might scale the enemy into impossible eventually but playing on just hostile is kinda boring.

The formula for spawn frequency is:
Map.GetSave().next_bugs = Map.GetTick() + 4000 + (stability // 3)
You can view stability from within a Re-simulator. There are a number of things influencing stability and one of those is killing an enemy which naturally tips the balance towards spawning more bugs (this and all other factors has a cap).
Research of virus and blight also influence stability in either direction.
There is a point where the equipment you have available is sufficient to deal with the waves as the bugs always spawn in limited quantity groups that are spread around your base.

The only bugs that seem to cause any issues are the flyers since you can't really kite them.

But all of the waves are fine with just 1 -3 turrets

so more of a "dont leave things undefended" and less "trench lines 3 miles deep"

good to know, thanks

A couple of other things you can do to mitigate the threat... Bugs only spawn from Hives, Holes, & Explorables.

1) Clear out any hives and holes within an area around your base. Do this early game with your scouts before you get to the end of the Basic Tree when groups of the armored worms start appearing... I recommend at least one full zoomed out screen distance to buy you some breathing room.

2) Solve & Deconstruct any ruins that are within the area you plan to use for your base. Yes you can deconstruct the buildings that don't vanish after they have been solved. This will keep bugs from spawning inside your base (or near it if you push that out far enough)

3) Destroy any Alien Ruin Explorables that are next to the blight using a manually targetted turret. These currently can't be solved as the required "Encrypted?" item is not ingame yet, so all they do is sit there an spawn bugs. You can blow them up to remove them.

Bonus) Leave 1-2 explorables near your base & build a heavy Firebase around them. Since the waves "mostly" spawn from the few closest available spawn points, if you leave a couple of them intact you can turn them into deathtraps surrounded by walls to contain the threat... NOTE that you do still need some defenses everywhere as the flying ones will sometimes spawn in small numbers from random farther away hives.

I had encountered this in a recent save and made sure to build adequately around my new indigenous internment camp. :steamthumbsup:
