This game drastically needs a speed up button...
... even 3-5x speed.

I am sitting here at the tutorial just waiting for ♥♥♥♥ to happen.

Not engaging at all...

The first hour or two are a little slow but once you get your base and resources going it doesn't stop.
The first-order fix for whatever you're waiting for is to have built more production capacity for it (and possibly less for other things you don't need yet), that's time you could have spent not idling, which will reduce the remaining idle time, pretty soon you're busy as a one-armed paperhanger and just trying to stay ahead of the curve.

Automation games don't have speed up controls because speeding up your production is the whole gameplay loop. Don't wait for things to happen, figure out why they're not done yet and build more of whatever it needs to get done. You can have multiple uplinks working on research at the same time. If they need more resources do it, build more production of those resources. If they need more raw materials, build more miners. In a game like this you should always be looking for what is slowing down your progress and fixing the bottleneck.

All speed-up controls would do is skip over the first round or so of that production and get frustrated again when the next tier of research requires more.

Play a little into the game and you'll be using PAUSE more often than not when for example, you'll be figuring out factories, scouting, creating behaviors etc.

If it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing.

Disagree as at least early game this isn't feasible due to the bottleneck of the slots in the buildings.

I AM the guy with 200 burner drills in factorio as i want to massively jump start production before I have the proper tech,

This game doesn't really let you do that due to extremely limited storage size and building slot restrictions.

Like you can EITHER have a fabricator and assembler OR research at the beginning of the game.

Just seems super restrictive and slow...

Do you have a minute to discuss our Lord and Tormentor, Opportunity Cost?

Cheat Engine, Enable Speedhack. It's a must have for this game.

The goal of the game is to play as little of the game as possible.
