Do people play only meta decks?
Just like previous titles and other similiar games? I want to have fun but i don't want to invest time if i am going to see same decks in following levels.

Seems like. I got up to gold ranking with noble knights, played ~15 duels and there was literally one non-meta deck in all of those games and that was a meme trap deck. Not a lot of variety at lower ranks but absolutely no one thinking outside the box past silver it seems

Perhaps you have a broad interpretation of what counts as "meta"? Because I ran into a colorful array of decks all the way into Platinum. It's only now that I see a ton of Eldlich, Drytron, and Tri-Brigade spam.

I find it funny that the word "meta deck" get's thrown around all over the place but the ones using it don't bother telling the name of such decks. To be fair it is painful when the "meta decks" in question are Exodia, Blue Eyes, Dark Magician or even Spiral Phantasm so perhaps it is for the best to keep it in mistery.

With that I mean, is up to you OP. Unless you reach the high Plat is up to you if you want to call those decks meta.

you hit meta decks at gold 3 people gold 3 and above are literally on meta decks trying to get to platinum

you'll have fun to gold 3 realise it costs a ton to make other proper decks that are just archtypes and not meta which you can barley make cause of UR cost and then quit even if you make the other fun decks they just get destroyed so hurray what a waste of gems they all were, i have 19 other decks all half complete and all missing the UR's and SR's to make them all not to mention to pull some you need secret packs which some genius decided it would be a great idea for them to show up only when crafting a SR or UR of that pack further decentivising you to actually experiment.

You'll build 1 deck maybe 2 and get fed up, i like the deck that i have but not being able to swap or try other things kills the game, some other key cards that could maybe help are UR.

the monetisation is in the wrong place go figure

I do agree to a certain extent. Some decks are interesting and you want to try them, but they will get absolutely clapped by most modern decks, meta or no. For example, I want to try out Bujins, but unless their playstyle changed dramatically since I last saw them, if they don't have like a Kaiser Colosseum or something they would get absolutely blown out.

Honestly my experience has been the exact opposite. I was chilling in the middle of gold the whole month only playing a few duels once or twice a week, tried getting on today and had a perfect win streak from gold 2 to plat 5. Pendulum magicians, blue-eyes, two exodias who surrendered within 30 seconds of the duel starting, vampires, dark magician, photon, and magician girls. Not a single one of my past 10 opponents used a deck that can even remotely be considered meta

19 other decks and all half completed, but you still reached gold 3. I mean I agree with your points about the silly temporal secret packs and absurd UR cards for terrible decks but that's a LOT of decks you are trying to play and build.

Take it personal if you wish, but you may want to focus a bit more to finish and learn a few decks before trying a dozen more.

Some deck types are definitely more present than others, but for 10 duels i still get like 7-9 unique archetypes i've to play against (at G1/P5).

But ultimately: The higher you go, the more likely you're facing strong meta decks, but as long as you're playing weaker decks, you'll most likely have a hard time getting that high.
No, lots of people play non-meta but the higher up in rank you go the less true this becomes.

And in the case where a deck performs well enough to be consistently used in plat, it might just become meta if enough people use it.

Meta sheep surround this entire game, look at it, just look at it.

Here I am messing around with Marincess and other decks *MISSING THEIR GOOD NEW OCG SUPPORT CARDS* and we have thousands of copy, pasted, Eldlich and Virtual World decks all over platinum.

It's so disgusting. These people disgust me.
