For humour it's the same, I prefer the first, and a lot of joke are forced, especially Tama's jokes.
A lot of place are exactly the same as before, and I like they said "don't have to play the first game", because in fact, a lot of jokes or notes are references of first game situations.
I don't like too the "power" of AI, syncs live with xray or thermo parameters, seeing their last actions... its sounds a lot like a deus ex....
Some characters are cool, yes, Gen and Ryuki, I like Tama despite her jokes. But I don't like Shoma and Komeji... their part is long, absolutely not funny and cliché.
Overall, it ok, and the story looks interesting so far, but I find the game less good, less funny. I was not surprise, when I heard Mizuki will be with Aiba, because the alchemy is not the same with Date (they're totally opposed), but in the end I played hours without Mizuki and it was not good too.... I'm a little disappointed, but not for the reasons I thought.
the problem with sequels is it's difficult to capture what worked in the first part while being so hyper-aware and self-conscious. The major accomplishment of the first game was having 'heart', which is a difficult thing to deliberately reproduce
let's be honest, Komeji's jokes weren't funny, Tama laughing at them was supposed to either: make them seem more funny, excuse you having to sit through them, or make it seem like Tama's response was itself the entertainment
in the last game, Date's porn obsession was framed as being amusing... I'm sure after a backlash, the second game has everyone 'groan' or 'eyeroll' as a response. I did wonder, why after Date got his memories back, that his (Falco's) romance with Hitomi (Iris's mother) was dropped without explanation
I had no problem with AI x-ray, thermo, they seem really plausible, since we already have machines that can do that... the scene recreation powers reminded me of the Batman Arkham games, which I enjoyed
I'm probably the only person who didn't like Gen lol
Date and Alba do have the best chemistry among duo's, part of it is the writing, but also the voice actor's talents
I still liked the game enough that I would play a third the day it came out
Regarding Date and Hitomi, it's not so much that their relationship has dropped, it's just that Date spends a decent chunk of the game's timeline missing, and thus unavailable.
I beg to differ. The "vice principle" joke was genuinely funny.
The issue with scene recreation is that, they store all this data... but how ? I mean, they have to active Xray and thermo themself during scene, why Tama/Aiba could not see the scene themself without recreating it for us ? It would be faster. Sometime they speak about their energy, but have all this data cost no energy ? Why they store this infos, if they cannot see in live this kinds of things ? For exemple with Tearer behind the scene when they recreated the the tv show. funny, Because in first game Aiba, if i remind correctly, could "feel" real people, for exemple at buildings on the docks
This + seeing caracter though in live is too much overpowered, and an easy way to running the scenario...
And it's create some absurdity, for exemple, when we play Mizuki later in the stadium and recreate the scene, something is hugely dumb :
Aiba recreate Shoma Robot and both her and Mizuki said "hey I recognize it !"... But f***... how ? I mean, why it would be Shoma's Robot ??? I can understand she uses Shoma's robot to make a staging because she had it in her memory, but why they consider it is in fact THIS robot which made it ? It's a nonsense. they can save the sceene, read people's minds and saw the past, or else ?
I think this kind of stuff is exactly the same issue I have with some manga/anime/game powers (like time travel etc), they-re to much powered, and it's create nonsenses, sometimes you don't know why, it will be flanged or used in wrong way, this is why I consider it as a Deus Ex, it's too easy to cheat and it creates a false tension, false plots.
What bothers me in any case is that in this second opus, we have the impression that the investigation can never reach a dead end, and that the scenario can at any moment choose to deviate in an unexpected and unpredictable way without it making any sense, because we can literally do anything anyway, and justify it in a way or other.
When the first one was more limited in possibilities, the scriptwriters had to think a bit more to link the different shadowy areas together.
But Again, I don't say I don't like the game or the plot, but I can consider this game 100 times better when a good part of the situations are created by such artificial mechanics...
on that note, wouldn't it make sense for Date to remove his prosthetic disguise and look like Falco again, which is how he looked when they first met (and, he said he wanted to look like Saito to appeal more to the ladies, which I found hard to believe)
I did find a bit strange that in the span of six years no one tried to find Date, especially because Boss and others knew his Falco's face. I wish they gave more explanation why the didn't find him.
As to Date's "appeal more to the ladies" line, even in true ending in the first game he still flirts with Receptionist, even though he also openly express that he still have feelings for Hitomi. I think this just how he is - being horny to women, while still have his one true love.
For exemple in the park with Chikara's body.... how Aiba can tell about the message in the balloon AND the one in the vending machine ? They clearly said after, something like "we made it in reality and it was that"... seriously.
And the scenario, how can it be better, sorry but I hardly accept the way they explain it all about a wrong storyline... Boss has a daughter no one knows about... and she is like mizuki, she is like her (mentally, but doesn't look like when we saw her has Bis Sis), she dresses like Mizuki etc etc... but it's big sis we played... Sorry, too easy, this and what I said in my previous posts, there are many scenaristics facilities to turn things around. In the first game sometime it was laughable, but the game took itself less seriously, but a lot of junction were more acceptable, here, they do whatever they want for the simple reason that : because. It is not the voice changer thing that will make an excuse like "oh look, that changes all, it's a foreshadowing !". No, it's not, it just a detail to make a "pseudo echo" to the situation..
There are a lot of dumbs things or illogical, all the time and everywhere... for exemple : I laugh internally, but I don't think it was intentionnal, but it's me or no one care about Ryuki ? I mean, they all like "yeeeey so much fun" but the guy litteraly died next to them 1-2 minutes before
I really think it is too easy to make some mindf--k and turn of events in the way they built the scenario, things you can't make more or less predictions, turns of events made more sense in the first opus.
