As for the lubu comment? Lubu is like the gatekeeper, if you pass him you can effectively beat the game. If you can't, then you likely won't. Why do I call him the gate keeper? Because he tests your knowledge on the mechanics taught thus far. When to spirit attack, timings on red counters, proper utilization of the divine beasts and of course countering elemental buffs. Once more, this gets worse in NG+, so beware!
Yes, have a playstyle that is not just ''bait critical attack''
You can break its spirit or do damage to it with spirit attacks, martial arts, magic. Since its a monster it wont block damage.
Its Water Virtue, so using Earth element is a good choice. Wood and Metal should also be good but I havent tested them. If you dont want to use full magic, you can use weapon enchants to atleast get some bonus damage and apply a status debuff.
For avoiding its attacks: you will get attacked with less multi-hit attacks if you stand in front of it. When it does the ice abilities if you stand closer to it you can avoid getting hit easier, while also doing damage to it.
I do admit I dropped my jaw a bit when I saw that its critical attacks do over 900 damage to my character. though. That's about 200 more than I would have on full health, so parrying them is a hard must this time.
My level was 120ish.
