Elemental Resistances and Damage does not work like that in this game. For some enemies you can use their own element against them because they dont have high resistance to it.
water has the phase advantage. even the 0 moral ice bolt thing will put out his flames and lower the damage he does. his lowest resistance is water and his flames will cancel your metal wizardry. all other types are neutral.
I use wood for the health and healing buffs.
If you need to use metal, pair it with that frost bolt spell I mentioned, so you can put out his flames before hitting him with metal. otherwise, the metal would get countered.
When I fought him on Game Pass version after release, without any additional patch, Ice Bolt was not putting out his flame, ever. I have specifically used it to try to counter his fire buff, I definitely hit him as he had a bit of status effect build-up on him and I saw damage number popping up but his fire buff never went out. Might have been just one of many bugs in this game..
It is weird if what you say, ie. boss buffs are effectively not able to be removed by countering Phases, since this is one of the core mechanics of the game. You do not need to counter buffs on normal enemies since you can kill them easily. Where all this fiddling with spells and selecting correct ones to use would pay off is at boss fights. If it does not work, whole "pick correct Phase spells to increase your efficiency" premise is moot.
This is correct, buffs applied via Divine Beast cannot be negated through the five phases system, this applies to both enemies and the player.
The benefit of using water against Lu Bu (besides it being the element he doesn't resist) is that it also cancels out any patches of fire he creates and using a water spell immediately removes the burn status.
Since receiving a status makes both you and every enemy in the game stagger (even such chunky bois like Aoye), it's far from a moot point to use the correct phase.
In fact, in NG+ you might find it extremely useful to get a word or two in when the enemy keeps getting in your face all the time.
Absolutely correct.
Makes perfect sense ;D
