What is wrong with Zhang Liao?
He oneshotted me first time being morale 24 XD

He is super fast, you cant see half the move because of the lightning.... well this will be great fun.

And i' missing two flags :steamfacepalm:

I think he was pretty fun, although I wish I was able to fight him a bit longer the first time. With how I mainly use metal, he was in a world of pain but he did land a few hits against me. Even with the obvious weakness he was able to put up a good fight. Definitely my favourite fight so far.

Even better than Lu Bu IMO. Although I'm saying this mainly because I found the horse phase of Lu Bu to be kinda lame and boring. It's not hard to deal with or anything, but I just didn't find it fun. Even if I were to not count the horse phase, Zhang Liao would still the better fight to me.

Zhang Liao is my favorite boss so far. The battle is very cool and I enjoyed the fight.

He's very likely going to get nerfed, in my opinion

So.... yeah....

Just for the trolls , I added in the "in my opinion" so they dont start arguing about stating facts not yet in existance or something like that.

You dont even know the boss we are talking about.

i would say this should be the tatic but you still get tagged by AOE from the lightning. even with light armor you cant dodge on how fast he strikes. couple this that even with heavy armor his attacks chunk your HP like youre fighting him with no armor on. normally the balance part would be normal hits would stagger him as he is a human based boss but he has supper armor.

him and lui bei dragon form are the only 2 that made think "well ok thats just being cheap..."

He only has super armor when his divine beast is active.

You can deflect ALL the secondary hits from the lightning. (you can probably also just block it with a metal spell)

Heavy Armor gives lower resistance then medium does, which gives lower resistance then light armor.

I honestly dont want him to get nerfed, he is a real fun boss to fight in normal game and in NG+.

Another annoying trait of Wo Long is inclusion of bosses with massive amount of elemental damage. This is not a challenging mechanic, it is just annoying because you have to go back to Hidden Village and re-embed your gear with proper resistances and defensive stats. Lu Bu or Zhang Liao are extreme example with few others sprinkled around to ensure you spend your $ and fragments.

Zhang Liao is extremely absurd since his AOE spells and attacks cover massive areas and it is almost impossible to get to him without getting hit. I could deal with Lu Bu because you could counter his fire-phase by proper deflects but I did not find anything for Zhang Liao. Best thing about Zhang Liao (sarcasm) was the fact I had to kill him twice since the game CTD at cut scene introducing next mission and when I got back into the game, I was in front of Zhang Liao battle flag.

Nioh had a lot of elemental damage too. It just means you have to dodge, sprint away or Deflect the damage instead of using Guard.

You can also use a Virtue that Overcomes their Virtue.

An ice area will block fire damage from going through it. So if someone throws a fire bomb, it stops once it hits the ice area.

An ice attack used against an enemy Fire Buff wil cancel it. (regular buffs too, not just elemental weapon) Lu Bu's fire enchant can be canceled this way. Zhang Liao cant be canceled because he uses Divine Beast to enchant his weapon. But his lightning attacks I think can still be blocked. (not sure if all of them)

Zhang Liao has his Divine Beast removed if you spirit break him I think.

In Nioh originally you had to dodge or run away. Immunity to elemental damage wasnt a thing untill higher NG+ and getting the effect transfered to 3 pieces(?) of armor.
But in Wo Long we get that baseline because Deflect prevents elemental damage too.
So this game has more methods of dealing with elemental damage then Nioh did, and an easy way right from the start.

Elemental Resist is for when you dont want to, or cant avoid damage.

He's not that bad, though he is one of the only 2 hard bosses in this game which is why I put lightning resistance on my entire armor. Don't know if it helps much but it's there.
Sokurah Mar 13, 2023 @ 10:41am
Well i beat him without changing anything. I dont really use elememt resistance afaik. I have my gear all embedded with more spirit mostly.

He is not terrible. I was just shocked of my first few attempts.

What helps is actually stay closer and dodge to the side so alot of his aoe strikes miss you.

But the fact that he is covering so much area, the fact you cant see good because of the particle effects and the sheer speed makes him kinda cheap.

I could have failed for way more attempts than i did i guess. I got a bit lucky with some moves.

Make him a bit slower and take away a bit of the particle effects and the fight is way more fun.

I actually beat him first try :D

He is not half as dangerous because he deals not that much damage. I wasnt even good at the fight and made aton of mistakes.
AH-1 Cobra Mar 13, 2023 @ 1:02pm
You want to stay in his face and block or deflect, and circle around (to the side). He's got a lot of big moves that whiff big and give you beefy openings to pound him.

He's got a lot of very fast multi-hit attacks, and I noticed on some of them, pressing the deflect button once actually deflected multiple hits which means you can more or less mash the deflect button on some of his combos and you don't even need to time it.

Yeah, screw this boss. Aside from Zhang Liang I've beaten every other boss in 2-3 tries, but it's been almost 2 hours and I can't beat him. I have 40 in wood and 30 in earth, so that I can run heavy armor. He still one shots me with a couple of his moves and with his b******* poke attack.
Witcher Mar 18, 2023 @ 6:36pm
I got a 2nd reinforcer to help defeat him on first attempt with 25 morale.
Master Mar 18, 2023 @ 6:50pm
The cheapest move you have in your arsenal against anything is deflect. He spams red attacks quite frequently so getting him to half hp can be done fast.

After that watch out for him thrusting his spear repeatedly and ending with wide AOE sweep. He'll also do a delayed attack slamming his weapon on ground with straight line lightning. deflect twice, once for weapon, other one for his lightning.
