My experience: Go wood, remove reinforcements, select a weapon scaling with wood and upgrade your equipment and weapon. Parry while blocking, learn his moves.

Make sure you collect all the flags. Use reinforcements for the level.

Just beat him, and I had to get more fortitude to do it; tried with 13, but it wasn't possible for me, would have taken ages. It's like a 5+ min fight where you mess up once and die in one hit. If you don't have all the flags, look up their locations on youtube, summon two companions, and you should be good to go.

I used the healing spirit, seems to be the best one.

Try summoning 2 real players so they can assist. You can also go back and solo him at a later time if you want challenge.

definitely a big difficulty spike but weirdly the couple bosses after him are an absolute joke.
be patient and dont chase him around, the fight drags on a bit though because of that.

if you have a hard time parrying him, you could invest into a 2nd weapon with like 120% deflection rating

It goes without saying, but collect all the flags if you havent yet.

a 2nd weapon with like 120% deflection rating

That effects spirit gain on deflecting and reduces dodging spirit cost. I dont know if it actually changes the window itself or not. Plus the weapons with high deflection ''difficulty'' are duel swords/sabers. And those lack the range to actually hit the critical deflect counters.
Im not joking, if you deflect the counter attack will fissle because it hits air.. lol.
You could probably get around that by deflecting at closer range, but at that range his criticals are much harder to deflect.

I did not use the healing spirit (usually forget spirits exist) but that does sound very useful here. You can also use the healing magic before criticals since it heals more on deathblow.

I read that any water/ice magic will cancel his fire stuff but I havent tried that myself. If thats true you can just avoid the 2 fire criticals and then cool him down with water magic. They are too dangerous to try and deflect, imo.

You can also use elemental weapons (requires lvl 12 in a virtue) to build up status.

Morale is pretty important. I went back after getting to chapter 5 to see if I faired any better and at 8 morale he still deletes me from fire attack even when I blocked. Took some serious abuse but I did end up coming out on top.

Meanwhile at morale 15+ he's basically free after getting +6 gear.

It's a huge issue because when he imbues his weapon all his attack will deal damage even if you block so your choice is to either parry or get deleted unless you got enough defense to absorb those elemental damage.

I would say reinforcement has griefed me more than it helped me. Sometimes Lubu goes after the AI with critical attack and will cleave me with it when they don't parry.

You have to break his spirit gauge to knock him off his horse. His jump critical attack is your best bet; deflect then immediately spirit attack and you should knock him off in one or two times.

The trick for me there actually was " be the gank" tactic. Summon 2 characters.. get the healing beast for instant revive and yolo stomp him. Use water shots to disable flame weapon, get ice weapon buff. Get gud at deflecting reds. Thats it.

i was using a sword the first time i fought lu bu and didnt notice any oddities in regards to the parry, besides that his critical hits are a bit delayed in general.

Maybe its an issue with duel sword/saber or that one specifically.

i haven't beat this guy yet, but i think im abit under level at lvl 30. might lvl up abit. still Tip for the fire phase, if you use water wizard spell missile, it puts out his flame. This works on any mob that uses fire.

I co-oped the level. I had two invaders we took down. One of my summons died. Think my other summon was a cheater because he survived dying. Had to send him away with the branch. Went back to flag and summoned again. Beat the boss b4 the boss. The did Lu Bu. Have to say even tho I cooped that was my favorite fight in this game yet. The music was good. The way Lu bu switches on and off of mounted combat.

Deflect difficulty only affects the deflect spirit consumption not the window. But the problem with such weapons is that guarding stat is usually very low so if you miss a deflect you lose much more spirit than guarding with a heavier weapon so it all balances out.

thanks for the correction, both of you ... must've been my bias that parrying felt easier :P

I used a spear. I just spent most of my time deflecting then using the spirit strike when he's open. Don't chase him down. Let him come to you. You should use the defence up earth wizardry, and attack down metal wizardy (might actually be wood). Just keep these up while continuing to deflect. You can deflect the arrows too. Doing all of these easy deflects will raise your spirit, making you stronger and tougher. Not many people realise higher spirit = higher fatal blow damage too, so when his spirit is eventually broken you deal more damage. Sometimes he does very long and fast combos that are hard to deflect, just hold block instead. You can use the level 1 water wizardry to completely neutralize his fire buff.
