I think this is a genuine question. I have a few friends myself who are allergic to MHR for some reason.
Some find the wirebug feature make the game too easy by giving players too many free 'out of jail cards'.
Some find the fast pace combat a massive let down by getting close to generic hack'n slash games than what MH used to be.
Some question the graphic fidelity.
Rise does many things better. For one, I like the maps more (to hell with ancient forest labyriths and hunting a rathalos there before iceborn and the auto-tracking rides).
I do like the introduction of AI controlled hunters as someone who played solo from OG Monster Hunter up to M4U, I hope they keep that for the next game.
Weapons not being the same 3 models with a few feathers and skin here and there is a big plus (shame on you capcom for that half assed models on world).
However, I'm no fan of the faster paced combat as it divert too much from the classic strategical approach and go more towards mindless action with very few interruptions.
Also hope they throw collecting those buff bugs across the map into the oblivion bin, alogside underwater combat from 3.
TL;DR: It changed too much and too quickly for many people out there.
The average player likely plays for fun and doesn't delve too deeply into the game's intricacies, for better or for worse. These players, when faced with having to grind Anomaly Investigations, will realize that fighting the same monster with inflated stats is a massive time investment considering the average player's clear times.
The players who dive deeper into the game mechanics complain about apparent balance issues and shoehorning of certain weapons and skills, not the gameplay itself (at least most of the time; this game does have many flaws in its gameplay, but so does Iceborne).
Sunbreak's set building over the course of its title updates was incredibly fun and varied; that is if you actually bothered crafting multiple weapons for each element and various armor pieces for sets. If you didn't, the game became stale much more quickly for the casual players who just didn't enjoy grinding Anomalies for hours on end.
It ultimately boils down to personal preference and whether any given player enjoys the grind or the gameplay loop enough to fight hundreds of 100k+ HP monsters, or not.
Also hunts in the beginning are so easy that it gives the wrong impression and while I know after playing the sunbreak demo that it does get to a good difficulty, it's kind of tedious to drag myself there.
Personally, I liked the maps in world better, too, because they felt more alive and not every piece of wildlife was either there to attack you, be killed and harvested for meat or give you an advantage in a hunt. Ancient forest is the exception, that map, I will agree, is way too large and labyrinthian.
I also miss the ability to go on investigations to farm monsters rather than just hunting them in the same quest or in expeditions if I need additional materials for weapons or armor. Not even because of the additional rewards that made the grind faster (Though that was welcome when grinding Large Elder Dragon Bones), but because every investigation had it's own setup.
Do I want to do the 2xSilver 3xGold Reward that has savage jho in it or would I rather go for the 1xBronze, 1xSilver and 1xGold Reward that has azure rathalos and dodogama as other monsters on the map? Same goes for the other modifiers like reduced faints, shorter investigation times or cut player count, and the investigations even have hidden defense modifiers that make every hunt just slightly different.
Rise feels like a monster fighting game. World feels like a monster hunting game.
Edit: Also, I am pretty sure that his is a bait post because this is also OP: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1446780/discussions/0/7257046178100746764/
I am going to say that when MH6 get's released it is going to have similar graphics towards rise with just a heck of a lot more detail.
When that happens your going to see the forums being flooded with "This looks bad, they should have made world 2" and "Monster hunter's dead, going back to world".
Then afterwards you'll start seeing discussions of World vs X(current monster hunter game)
At some point in between you'll hear the cry of a thousand voices echoing through the halls of each monster hunter forum, causing headaches, and annoyances throughout the community World's servers is getting/got shut down
Eventually a game will peak the interest of the world fan that he'll finally migrate towards, although it will never be the same as world, it is acceptable.
This is highly dependent on the fact that the graphics are similar to or just better than Dragon's dogma 2.
MUH GRAPHICS, THIS MUST BE UNREAL ENGINE 9 OR SOMETHING :O
SUCH INMERSION
MEAT & DRINKS >>>> DANGO XDDDD
WORLD STORY IS SO GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD, WHILE RISE DOESN'T EVEN HAVE ONE XDDDDDD
NO ENDGAME??????? RISE RELEASED UNFINISHED XDDDDD NO CONTENT
BRUH GREAT JAGRAS IS SO DIFFICULT, THIS GAME IS SO HARD :O
Whaaatttt? MH isn't a new franchise that came out in 2018????? YOU MEAN THERE ARE MORE GAMES NAMED MONSTER HUNTER THAT CAME BEFORE WORLD???????? Impossible.
It's that the start of Rise is even easier to the point where it is unfun for me.
Hunts cleared too fast to the point where I didn't even have the time to appreciate a new monster before it died or got trapped.
Hence why I said that I know there's a good game waiting past low rank. Getting there just feels like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ chore and I can't put more than an hour at a time in because I quickly get that feeling of "meh, I'd rather go hunt something stronger in World."
Edit: I would probably adore this game the same way I adore World, if one change was made: Let me enjoy the gathering hub quests without stopping me in my tracks every now and then to tell me "You haven't progressed far enough in the story to do this mission."
But forcing me to do the training wheel quests to access the good content just makes me feel like Rise is babying me.
Me personally, it's how it was executed. With World, you have a good grasp of the game as it's unraveled to you. You know what's going on, the maps, the monsters, and the game's mechanics as you find the different hubs and what-not. But jumping into Rise, that's not what happens even though I'm 20 hours in, I still don't fully know what I'm doing and what's going on. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but that's how it is for me.
But here's the thing, I don't think Rise is a bad game, it's just not as good as World.
most of you haven't played a monster hunter game before and world was your first
