CB Savage Axe?

Are there any CB players out there that can help; I can't for the life of me find any way to activate savage axe mode.

Charging shield and sword seems to be the same as world, but when I do the savage axe combo, I just get the 'Axe: Ultra Element Discharge'.

Also I use mouse and keyboard, so I wont understand XBox/PS terms unless there is some context/explanation that goes with it.

Savage axe the way it worked in iceborne is gone. It's now a switch skill. Iirc it unlocks in high rank.

I remember being confused as well. There's a switch skill for it but I could never get it to work until watching a guide on YT. I can try and find it.

It unlocks in early low rank by speaking with Master Utsushi in the gathering hall.

Unlike World, it is activated by pressing and holding the primary attack button (e.g. Y) while charging phials, or with the same button out of landing Counter Peak Performance (except you don't have to hold the button this time). It also has no effect unless you hold the attack button down when you hit a monster, and it ends as soon as you leave axe mode for any reason.
