Mayan Throne Room - Rotating Spear Carrier

Is there some magic trick to this or are we really supposed to do the adjustments on the fly. As an ageing person who was never particularly nimble to start with the reason I like games like ES is precisely that I don't (usually) have to do three things at once while flitting back and forth between viewpoints. This puzzle appears on the face of it to be exactly the opposite of this. So, is there a way for tortoises such as myself to knock this one down or shall I just give it up as a bad job and move on?

You program the sequence ahead of time.

The lever on the back picks the mode/state, to fit each of the doors, and the different choices in the front (spear position/extension) have to be adjusted to fit through the opening.
