Once finished this would put me in the area of 300 hours before I settle in for multiplayer sessions (which imo are handled better than Stardew's) and just-because playing. Sun Haven's got comparable content to current Stardew, but does keep you feeling busier with assorted quests and general running about. Hell, early on I felt the need to extend the day timer to 40 minutes just to feel like I was fitting enough into each day and not running back to bed after every shopping trip.
So yeah, Sun Haven's got plenty of content. It's also got a few bugs and other weirdness that might be hammered out in later patches, since the game's only 1.1 right now and so far as I can tell is still being actively developed.
Sun Haven's biggest let down vs Stardew is a less interesting cast which is probably going to be particularly noticeable on repeat play-throughs; that said there is probably more content for a *single* play-through as the game offers basically everything Stardew does, with better combat, magic and less tedious fishing.
For perspective on the content - I think I've barely done earlier than a 10pm finish on each day so far and that was normally end of season where in all these titles you just prep for the next season. I've taken 42 hours and not even finished the first year. There's a *lot* to do; and I struggle on some days even with a massive speed boost (about 250% at this stage I think...) from the buffs you can get.
Given that the next best contender (Story of Seasons - I forget what the next one is called) is likely to be priced far higher, and has no guarantee of being good (Marvelous aren't exactly the most reliable of developers) if you like the genre Sun Haven is a pretty safe bet.
I feel like I can keep playing that same save file even after beating the story. You want more crops? Sun haven has like over 100. Or at least close, if not. Definitely a lot more than Stardew, along with more furniture and decorations, there's even over 100 pets. Also tons of clothes and ways to customize your character unlike Stardew, and if you're cool with spoilers (I won't spoil the story but this could spoil what to expect in the game, but it affects my rating of it-) you get three farms eventually and three living spaces, all fully customizable and all with their own charm so if you love the decorating then you have lots of space to do that and time you'll need collecting furniture for them. You'll be busy. You will also be able to change your character's appearance as you please later as well.
So, I feel like not only is this a game that you can enjoy over and over by making new files and playing them all differently than how you did before (whereas in Stardew you feel compelled to do the community center a lot and get bored or Joja when you can't take the grinding anymore, yet that's a grind in itself), but you can also enjoy it for many many hours collecting various things on one save file even after you complete the main storyline.
i'm 100 hours in and still going strong, further than I used to get in one Stardew save, honestly. I know people are rating Sun Haven lower, but for me personally? Sun Haven is way more addicting and worth putting hundreds of hours in.
140h in Sun Haven so far
Tbh i give both a 10/10 in this genre.
Yes I played the hell out of Stardew, but in the end I just started my farm over and over and tried different ways to maximize my income and/or try fun stuff like surviving with foraged items or with sheep only.
Contentwise Sun Haven has much more to offer. The story itself is really long even if you rush like I did on my second farm. You have multiple farms, houses, animals etc. There is a carnival, lots of side quests every day, multiple mines and so much stuff you can do every day, that most of the times 40 minutes is not enough. Bonus the fighting system is way funnier than the system in Stardew (if you can even call it fighting there). And: Magic. No more sprinklers, LET IT RAIN!
There isnt really an endgame besides farming/buying furniture, pets, whatever you want, but its the same with Stardew. Whats missing for me is the ingame achivements, like earn 10000000G or whatever. But besides that... go for the game.
edit: dont forget one thing: Stardew was - as far as I remember - the first really good farming game after Harvest Moon (failed :D). It was really popular when it came out and made almost everything better, what farming games back then did wrong. Now its different. There is a whole other audience and there are many good farming games.
Vouch, Stardew's hours mainly came from playing it over again with friends but in Sun Haven I find myself still finding so much to do on the same save. I wanna make a new farm but I'm just not nearly done with the 3 I have here!
