We've just had two massive bugs this year: February's patch corrupted tons of people's saves because Pixel couldn't be bothered to implement the new save path migration properly, and just earlier this week people's skill levels - which take a considerable amount of time to grind - had bugged out and reset to 1. Many still haven't been able to fix their save from that second bug.
My suggestion is not playing Sun Haven when an update is pushed out. Give it 24 hours and check the relevant announcement page, or here in Discussions, to see if something major has broken. Saves you the potential grief, as frustrating as it is.
Obviously, any moral dilemma for how they treat their staff, the allegations of mishandling freelance contracts, of underpaying, of outsourcing for cheap labour, of not crediting due work, is already done and dusted, ala supporting the company by your purchase of the game. Best thing you can do there is simply not buy any of the cosmetic packs.
While the game is very pretty, there are other similar games to try. Like Fields of Mystria and a surprising favourite of mine Corekeeper (such a good sound track, though no friendships and romance). If you're not sure, maybe come back to it where there are no more updates.
(Also I do enjoy Core Keeper and Fields of Mistria actually LOL i feel kinda clocked)
Whats more is they are on console now, so the need to make sure future saves are not ruined increased.
Overall the games a blast, fun to unlock steam achievments, and interesting portrait mods on Nexus if thats also your thing.
Personally i wont play the game any more because theres a lot of apparently bad business practices going on with the company behind this game. plenty of videos on it on youtube. about it if your curious. as of right now i personally wouldnt spend a dime on this game and just go play coral island or stardew valley instead.
I might come back to this game if the higher ups in the dev company sto being shady but im not putting hours into a game where the companies employees are either under paid or not paid at all and at the very least they need to give all the people that worked on this game proper credits which they cant even do for some reason.
If that stuff ever changes in the future ill reinstall the game. But i dont actively support businesses If i find out about consistent shady things going on. Just my personal opinion though.
As far as gameplay goes, been having a good time playing it as there's a bit more to the combat and character building than I saw from playing Stardew, Coral Island and the My Time At games. It's also pretty interesting that there isn't a stamina system in play and how you can allocate bonus experience rewards toward specific skill areas as you complete quests and tasks.
Personally I think it's worth throwing the dice and seeing for yourself as there's a good chance the positives will outweigh the negatives.
