Want to get into the game but... is it even worth it at this point?
Been holding off on properly delving into Sun Haven fro a while now but now I am to scared to even try. Hearing people put in 10s of 100s of hours into saves only to have them be wiped by updates and dozens of other bugs and drama. I'm scared to even try and delve into trying to enjoy the game I bought anymore :/

Dont let people put you off trying the game if your interested in playing it people will cry and moan about everything no matter how good or bad something is, I think this game is fantastic but i really like this style of game and i have never had any of the issues people are complaining about, i even bought the game on switch which is were i play this game more than on pc as its cool to lay in bed and play.

You're entirely right to worry about the potential of losing hundreds of hours of investment.

We've just had two massive bugs this year: February's patch corrupted tons of people's saves because Pixel couldn't be bothered to implement the new save path migration properly, and just earlier this week people's skill levels - which take a considerable amount of time to grind - had bugged out and reset to 1. Many still haven't been able to fix their save from that second bug.

My suggestion is not playing Sun Haven when an update is pushed out. Give it 24 hours and check the relevant announcement page, or here in Discussions, to see if something major has broken. Saves you the potential grief, as frustrating as it is.

Obviously, any moral dilemma for how they treat their staff, the allegations of mishandling freelance contracts, of underpaying, of outsourcing for cheap labour, of not crediting due work, is already done and dusted, ala supporting the company by your purchase of the game. Best thing you can do there is simply not buy any of the cosmetic packs.

I was gifted the game a few years ago and only just started playing. I've not had any problems so far and had no idea there were bugs that bad. I also had no idea about the company's issues (should've known really considering the £80+ worth of cosmetics).

While the game is very pretty, there are other similar games to try. Like Fields of Mystria and a surprising favourite of mine Corekeeper (such a good sound track, though no friendships and romance). If you're not sure, maybe come back to it where there are no more updates.

Normally its not needed with these, but you can have a copy from before starting the game with the current patch and loading your save, as a save backup somewhere, as it probably only updates your file once you run the game and load it. but it gets a bit techy, and ive just came back to seeing people got this level bug

I really appreciate your guys input and ideas to avoid losing my progress. I do really wanna play the game and I think I will. It looks like it has a lot to offer.

(Also I do enjoy Core Keeper and Fields of Mistria actually LOL i feel kinda clocked)

you could always set it to not auto update and start now. i find that the game even tho still getting updates, is complete for the most part. ive had my save for a long time and ive run into no issues with any of the updates.

Whats more is they are on console now, so the need to make sure future saves are not ruined increased.

Overall the games a blast, fun to unlock steam achievments, and interesting portrait mods on Nexus if thats also your thing.

so most of the nagatives you hear gameplay wise is from the switch version.

Personally i wont play the game any more because theres a lot of apparently bad business practices going on with the company behind this game. plenty of videos on it on youtube. about it if your curious. as of right now i personally wouldnt spend a dime on this game and just go play coral island or stardew valley instead.

I might come back to this game if the higher ups in the dev company sto being shady but im not putting hours into a game where the companies employees are either under paid or not paid at all and at the very least they need to give all the people that worked on this game proper credits which they cant even do for some reason.

If that stuff ever changes in the future ill reinstall the game. But i dont actively support businesses If i find out about consistent shady things going on. Just my personal opinion though.

I bought it and played for the first time a few days before this latest patch and while it hosed my save initially, it was resolved by the time I started playing the next day. Not sure if that's always the case for every patch related issue though, as I haven't been playing the game for years like others.

As far as gameplay goes, been having a good time playing it as there's a bit more to the combat and character building than I saw from playing Stardew, Coral Island and the My Time At games. It's also pretty interesting that there isn't a stamina system in play and how you can allocate bonus experience rewards toward specific skill areas as you complete quests and tasks.

Personally I think it's worth throwing the dice and seeing for yourself as there's a good chance the positives will outweigh the negatives.
