They do have to get the controller support to a usable state before they can release to the Switch anyway.

My point being made by mentioning the console port is that they need to have a good controller support foundation for that before they can release it. So it means they should be working on controller support actively, which will benefit this version as well.
One problem is that there being a console version is no guarantee of the pc version having controller support if there isn't already. And vice versa. A PC version is no guarantee of the console version having KB+M support.
This can happen for multiple reasons: different team/company working on console version than the PC version (Yes, this happens). Console UI and controls are heavily specialized, which causes the game to be very different on the console version (I believe minecraft and terraria fall under this, which is why some items are only/not on console). They are using something they didn't develop themselves to support KB+M / Controller, which isn't available on a different device for some reason, whether due to licensing or just non-existent support.
I've also seen many promises of controller support that fell through either because the team couldn't figure out how and gave up, ran out of funds, or something happened. It could even be that the code would take too much effort to rework, ie. gains < cost.
I am not sure what updated support means. I've seen it where updates went in reverse (the support worsened with an update).
Thus, while it is assuring to hear that they are working on it, things can happen before delivery.
Would this game be playable on x86/x64 handhelds that does not has any trackpad? ROG Ally and other offerings from GPD, Ayaneo etc.
