How does multiplayer work?

I'm contemplating making a new character for some multiplayer, but it's not exactly clear how multiplayer works in this game. I know I can use a singleplayer character for a multiplayer session, but does that keep the progress I've made or reset it for that session? And how about the other players, how does the farm area work when multiple people are playing?

It's been a while since I played multiplayer but from what I remember, the farm area is based on whoever's hosting. (If A, B and C join D's game, then the farm area will be D's farm from their character's save file). Other things in the world like mines progress/season are also based on host.

I believe your character's quest/skill progress stay the same in singleplayer and multiplayer, you bring over anything in your character's inventory as well.

There's a Lobby Setting which changes how the currency is distributed too.

Shared: All players use the host's gold/mana orbs/tickets. Your character's money in your own save is unaffected.

Split: I think everyone's money is just their own money from their character's save file.
