Bait Attachment

I have looked all over and can't find out how you attach the bait you make in the Composter. Right now, I just have it in my hot bar with the fishing rod. How do I attach it. I have fished for hours and none of the baits that I have show a decrease. Thanks for the help.

You have to "eat" it.

Yeah, I found out by putting it in my hot bar and left clicking with it thinking it would attach it to the pole but I "ate" it.
