Annoyed by the newest patch. 1.0.3 (patch spoilers)
So first off, I'm a bit peeved that there's ZERO notes about this patch, there's notes on 1.0.2 but not 1.0.3 and it'd be nice to see exactly what has changed. That's not my biggest complaint though, that would be about the change in two main story quests, "A small donation" and "Make rent". Originally "A small donation" would have you donate 500 mana, but now you must donate 1000 mana and "Make rent" used to have you pay a 1000 tickets but now it's 3000 tickets. These quests were already EXTREMELY grind heavy, now they feel like a stupidly annoying chore... Honestly I regret updating my game...

I think the worst part is how they broke controllers.

You can make this money very easily by fishing, the fishes from Nel'vari/Withergate sell for orbs/tickets. I was actually able to afford a Deer Fox (1500 orbs) as my first mount very early game just by fishing in Nel'vari for like, 3 days, without farming a single crop.

1000 doesn't seem that excessive.. I had 500~ mana orbs(not to be confused with your mana bar) by halfway through summer year 1 despite never really going to Nelvari. Never fished nelvari fish or sold nelvari crops. That 500 is just from misc drops from treasure chests/chopping trees/chopping up weeds and the like

1000 should be easily earnable from ACTIVE efforts within a week or two tops.

I think the problem is you're locked out of doing anything worth while in Nelvari until that donation is completed. Have 300 and you just arrived and want to experience a new exciting area? sorry! Go ahead and spend the next 2 weeks trying to farm up the mana.

It's not fun to have to grind like that.
This ^^^
I like grinding in some games, but this is not a game I really want to be stuck fishing just cus I wanna explore.
Rotan Apr 9, 2023 @ 1:57pm
the update notes would be something like

*broke controllers
*increased grind
*broke some things
*sorry :)))))))

Them go explore and come back to the quest and you are willing to do it. Its not grindy at all, i just gave you a very easy, very fast solution to your "problem" and you just completely ignored it. "OMG THIS IS SO GRINDY THERES IS ABSOLUTELY NO WAY TO MAKE THIS MONEY FAST!!!", "Actually i made this amount really fast using this method so you should do this", "NO I DONT WANNA DO THIS I JUST WANT TO COMPLAIN AND PRETEND NO ONE SAID NOTHING" 🙄... Go fish and you gonna have the orbs in three days, problem solved, dont wanna do it? Them the problem its not the game.

I mean 3 days for me equals like 120 minutes. 120 minutes of fishing appears like the definition of a grind. I dont mind these quests, but saying that this game isnt grindy, while you had to virtually smash a seasonal boss for 30 minutes with a pickaxe or catch like 50 fish to get rid of one is at least for me hilarious.

And for topic's sake: Yes such changes should be clearly communicated with patch notes and a proper reason. Despite obviously there are some bugs which were introduced, like with a certain slime king not working correctly.

Why are you even playing a farming sim if you just wanna rush though the game? The point of the game is to take your time, those games are slow by design and the vast majority of ppl that play them appreciate it, in fact this is exactly what they are looking for, all of these games work around long repetitive mechanics that function as tasks to help ppl relax, if thats not what you are looking for i dont know why you are playing a game like this...

No need to be nasty. Games like these usually pride themselves on letting you have a variety of ways to do one thing.

Just think of the situation, you just arrived in Nelvari, maybe with a couple hundred mana. If you didn't realize that you'll need to donate a certain amount AFTER a quest starts, you might spend some mana/donate what you have (that's EXACTLY I did). Now you need to gather the entire 1000 mana once the quest starts. This is the very first thing they ask you to do. If you buy stuff in their village, you're putting yourself further behind in the donation quest. It doesn't seem to follow the narrative to leave back to Sun Haven right away after arriving, so you're just stuck having to grind out the mana.

Imagine if on your first day of Sun Haven, you were told "okay, go collect 500 logs". Sure, you can do it, and move past it, but damn, does that really seem fun? Just because there are easy ways to do something if you're willing to min/max/grind it out, doesn't make it enjoyable.

edit:

quote from the discord:

We nerfed the quest to require 3000 tickets to slow down game pacing in hopes that folks would enjoy taking a break from the story there to catch up on the crafting, exploration, fishing, etc of the region!

If you feel like it's much too high, we can definitely nerf it, like if you find yourself just getting bored of the rest of the content there or if it just seems ridiculous I could definitely see it being buffed, but our hope is that it will be fine. 🙂

So there you go, feel free to speak out against the change. I personally think it's a lazy way to slow down progression, just adding multipliers to boring quests.
"Boring","Grindy","Repetitive"... I keep seeimg this words repeated over and over... Do you all understand this is a farming sim dont you? Not an rpg, not an action game? Have y'all played farming sims before? Are you sure this is the kind of game you were looking for?

You do know that, on their very own store page, they refer to it as an RPG multiple times, right? It's not "just" a farming game, its sold as a farming RPG with action elements; enemies, and a final boss on top of the farming elements.

People are absolutely entitled to feeling like these changes are a detriment since they don't make the game any more fun—they're a cheap way to artificially gatekeep content for an extra few hours. I'm not sure why you're taking such an argumentative, aggressive stance with everyone here, tbh.

They didn't mention anything about rushing through the game, either. No one is saying "I want to rush through the game, and this change is preventing me from beating it really quickly".

People are saying "This change is lame, it's a multiplier tacked onto a series of quests that lock me out of progressing and force me to sit around grinding longer than I already had to before the changes". It's an entirely fair criticism to have, and people can both enjoy a game *and* offer those criticisms, believe it or not.

You might not find it grindy. Other people do, it's an entirely subjective thing.

they went the cheap way of extending it, could have done it so many other ways. Its a shame, this could have been the next sdv, but between all the glitches and choices like above it'll never happen

Agreed. I actually love grindy aspects to games. Having 'endless' dungeons to go through as challenges, long term goals to work towards, etc. Having a "uh, our story is too short, let's multiply the requirements for the entry level quest to an area" is NOT a grind, it's lazy development because you realized your storyline is half-baked. (not saying the devs themselves are lazy, it takes a lot of work to make something like this) The choice to nerf something like that is lazy however.
Do you understand why those quests exist? What is their purpose for the game? They are not there simple to serve as an obstacle, you know? They are there to motivate the player to go on and try the different ways they have to farm those different types of currencies, same reason why those regions even have different currencies and why you can mostly only farm those currencies inside those areas, its the game saying to you, "Hey, why dont you try using the farm in Nel'vari for a while to see that farm unique mechanics? Why dont you spend some time in that city and have a look at the shops? Why dont you decorate your house there with their exclusive decor items or see their different pets? Why dont you spend some time with this? It will be enjoyable." You said no to all of those things, you refused to interact with the game and with what it had to offer to you and came here to complaim about it and call the devs lazy for putting it there in the same breath... The reason why they increased the ammounts needed was mostly because you could do the other ammounts in two days by just fishing, thereby defeating the purpose of those quests. You can still just go fish and get it done really fast if you hate it so much, but you even found reasons to complaim about that, dont you? Ppl nowadays are like that i guess, what can you do 🤷🏻‍♀️?...

Y'all here saying "OMG THOSE QUESTS ARE SO GRINDY I CANT EXPLORE THE GAME BECAUSE OF THEM 😡"... The quests are grindy to give you the opportunity to explore the game while you do them, they give you reason to explore the game, they are your motivation to do it. Whats is there to explore in the game if not the farming, the fishing, the mining that you are gonna be doing to finish those quests? What is there to explore if not talking with the npcs while you spend time in those places? What is there to explore if not to see the artstyle of the regions while you forage to sell the items for the money? Why are you even playing the game if you have no interest in any of those things?
