Lock in romance?

Is it safe to go on "dates" with everyone?
My question is, are you safe to go on all dates up to 10 hearts with everyone?
And then if YOU wanna continue, you have to gift them something to activate romantic dating?
Or how does it work?

Yes you can date everyone with no probelms, you can get to 15 hearts with everyone. Then choose the one you want to marry to go to 20 hearts with your choosen.

Well that's my question, if I get to 15 hearts with everyone, how do I chose? Do I gift them something to actually start the romance?
Or do I ignore quests from everyone except the one I wanna date? xD

If everything goes really well by your second date they prompt you to start dating. I'm pretty sure you can't reach 15 hearts if you're not dating already. If they don't ask you (because you got maybe one question wrong on the date) you can buy a love letter in the town hall to give it to them and start dating. After that, hearts will progress till 15 and then you can have a third date. You'll need the engagement ring and marry to reach 20 hearts.

You can date everyone at once but you can't marry more than one person at a time.
So I think it's pretty safe to date whoever till the third date, and then choose (or not)

You buy the wedding ring at town hall and gift it to the one you want to marry, when they accept it the marriage will take place the following day.

I've even had characters ask me on a date after I was married so there's no way to lock yourself out of a relationship other than potential bugs.

So.. It's up to 10 hearts. Then if they ask me to date or if I chose to give love letter then you can reach 15 hearts?
Did I get that right?
Could you in theory legit date everyone to 15 hearts. But THEN it's up to YOU to give a wedding ring to lock it in for good? :)

Yup, you need to give them the ring to lock it for good. Till that you're free to date and have all the third dates.

And... for what it's worth... you can still have all your 3rd dates and everything else AFTER being married, I'm even still getting "I would marry you" dialogue from characters, so they really don't limit anything here. You can even initiate dating with a character AFTER you get married. Not the greatest thing for immersion, but I guess it's good for folks that don't want to have to make multiple characters.

I tell you more, you don't even have to choose who to marry - you can get them all!
All you have to do is 1) earn enough tokens for the wedding rings 2) propose to all desirable candidates on the same day (make sure there is no festival on the next day!).
Someone mentioned it here on the forum and I decided I have to try it, and now I'm happily married to three of my favorite bachelors.

That's hilarious. Is there any actual benefit to marriage in this? I read that they don't move in or anything, there's no kids... so does anything but dialogue change (and dialogue wise, is it significant)?

Funny, right? We can have a harem :) As for the benefits, they give you rings with bonuses; you can wear two of your choice at once. If you're a completionist or an achievement hunter, it will save you time to get everyone to 20 hearts.
