Before trying this game I always thought that
Graveyard Keeper
My Time At Portia/Sandrock Series
Were the only games that really could compete with Stardew and now I feel that this game deserves to be in that list... Its solid and isn't trying to shove woke politic's down your throat either like Coral Island...
Oh wow any other games you'd recommend and ... how is coral island woke... haven't played it yet....
Sun Haven does have a few shortcomings though. Despite the game being released into 1.0 it still feels a bit rough around the edges with bugs, a few questionable design choices, and some things that just aren't right(like... the Museum bundle in the Museum that needs winter crops mistakenly has a monster drop in it's list of things needed, and some fishing skills are just useless).
Romance also feels a shallow(which is my biggest gripe with the game) as most of the events are just dialogue with the romanceable NPCs. No fancy endearing cutscenes like in Stardew to really deepen your attachment with the characters. No taking photos with Haley at Marnie's farm, no Motorcycle ride to the outskirts of the big city with Sebastian or a piano concierto from Elliott, and also no "shaking tent" with Emily or bath house shenanigans with Penny, none of that. The closest Sun Haven has is some dialogue while you and your partner sit down on a couch/bench and a fade to black with some text for the "spicier" third and final date.
It's still a fun game though, highly recommend getting it if you're into a Stardew-esque game with more involved systems.
The problem I have, is how short it seems. I'm at roughly 50ish hours and I've been making a point to drag the game out by taking on a lot of side quest things I normally ignore in games, like fishing and special challenge dungeons. I'm only in mid-fall in-game and I probably could have finished the main story by now if I hadn't been doing things like digging my way to the bottom of the sun haven mine to get a full set of sunite armor and tools. By the time I got to the elf village I was expecting... more given the game description says there are three "worlds" to explore. I mean, I finished up the elf village bit in 2-3 in-game days. You don't have to bother with any farming/ranching or anything there unless you care about the museum. I'm guessing the demon village will be the same deal.
IMO, this is about what I'd expect if the game were just hitting playable status for early access, not a 1.0 release, unless the plan is to do like Stardew and No Man's Sky and have a steady drip of new content come out every few months or so. It definitely has the makings of being a great game, it just needs more content. You could finish the main quest in less than a single game-year, and that's including taking a lot of time to deal with side quests.
It's cute, but I got demotivated pretty early.
I've personally encountered several bugs so far, including some skills that are useless/broken and getting stuck in a interaction box in a city.
It needs more content and less systems/recipes/resources/currencies.
My verdict is: Worth playing, but get it on sale.
Way more stuff in it but unfocused.
This sold it for me. I just need to sell a few more items then it's mine! >:3
Then why are you not buying coral island also...
